I have a 2003 SL 500. when closing the trunk. the first latch holds it down but it does not latch the time to fully close. .. so the light on the trunk switch on the drivers door stays on and the battery wears down over time
Adjust the latch so that the catch will lock over properly. You may need to use a round bar ( screwdriver blade ) Place it under the latch and while pressing on the release button pull the latch out to the open position. The latch may be 1/2 closed before the boot is put down and the latch will not go any further

TRY PUTTING THE KEY IN AND TURNING IT AS IF YOU WERE OPENING THEN PULL OUT KEY AND TRY CLOSING THEN TRY AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS
SOURCE: trunk won't close
You should be able to Close that Manually. Just wait for the Electronic Close to Stop Trying before you close it and it should be just fine.

Make sure it is not binding/sticking where you pull the release cable.
Drench the entire works in WD-40. Push it back and forth until it moves with no resistance.
Make sure the part that hooks onto the latch hasn't come loose enough to not slide over when it makes contact.
If that doesn't work, take the whole thing off. You'll have to anyway to replace it. Chances are with it disassembled you'll see what's wrong.

i own a 92 Buick roadmaster and i had the same problem with mine. i had to disassemble the motor and then turn the gear to lower the hinge. now the trunk closes but i have to have someone help open it now due to no spinge in the trunk lid

There is a electric motor on the lower part of the trunk that usually goes bad. Not on the trunk lid but the trunk part. You can remove the assembly and take it apart so you can turn the latch all the way down , Once youy have done this you can put it back in place. Make sure you unplug the motor so it won't go up again, You should be able to use the release button inside.
