Location and access to Transmission Filter to change Trans. oil and Filter

Automatic Transmission: I was told to change the transmission fluid and the trans filter as a means to stop the slipping of the transmission. It worked fine yesterday and today it will barely pull the car. What about the lines? Any Tips?

Hi Lb,
My car is RX300 1999 and has the same problem. I changed the fluid 2 years ago after the trans slip and lost the shift. Afterwards it worked for another 2 years. But recently it doesn't work again even I change fluid and put Stop Slip additive to the trans. I was told the trans has to be rebuilt. So changing fluid and filter can help to maintain the trans for sure and can prevent problem. But if the trans has already worn a lot, it can't help at last.

Nope. There is a drain plug on the transmission case. It is a simple drain and fill. Odyssey transmissions do not have a filter.

Auto fluid was brown so when I drained it, only 2 litres came out, so put back 2 litres of fresh which came up to the hot mark on the dipstick. Fluid now still brown ( but not as dark as before.

Michael, If your vehicle is a normal automatic transmission it will have a torque converter. If you really want to attempt a complete flush, I will post links on how it is done, you will still have to change the filter to ensure a thorough job. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My 2003 cadillac cts automatic transmission will not change gears pulls off slowly but will reach high speed

please do not have your transmission flushed , have someone take the oil pan off and replace the filter as well and what ever trans oil you take out replace it as well . no automotive repair shop will warrenty your trans if it should suddenly stop working , but just for your satisfaction ask the transmission repair shop who flushs trans if they guarantee it and have them put it in writing . ive never understood why flush dirty oil and leave the dirty filter in the trans , it collected all dirt and metal wear which is what is causing it to plug up causing it to restrict the oil flow

How to change trans fluid on 1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4 127000 miles

Don't worry about the lines unless excessive sludge and debris is found during pan removal. Drop the pan, inspect , wipe clean, replace filter and fill with fluid. This service is recommended every 50k.

Location of my transmission drainplug on a 2000 chrysler 300m

There is no transmission drain plug on any brand of car with an automatic transmission. You must drop the transmission pan to change the oil. Replace the filter/pickup at the same time.

Most, but not all, transmissions have a converter drain plug accessible via a small metal cover at the bottom front of the trans housing. Rotate the engine using a bar against the ring gear teeth to bring the plug to the bottom. This drains only the torque converter, but if done along with the standard sump drain you get a more complete change of fluid. Otherwise, a sump-only change leaves some of the old fluid in the system.

2003 Dodge Stratus

no drain plug, no car or truck has had a drain plug for decades, reason? they want the filter changed with the fluid, so they make you pull the trans pan to drain the fluid, one very messy job.
