SOURCE: brake warning light is on for 2002 bmw 745i.
The brake pads have sensors in them, when the pads get worn down to the sensor the light comes on letting you know its time to replace. this happens well before the pads are completely gone to reduce wear on the rotors. You should have the brakes replaced and the sensor also.

try sitting in car put key in turn but dont turn in over then press the lock button on remote then press the unlock button this might do it, worth a try..

new tyres have nothing to do with warning light.if steering vague/wandering then poss new column required .I would ask a bmw specialist, if they have a diagnostic machine, to run a computer check,just to be safe,it dont cost much.....
