1997 Nissan 200sx. Wheel vibration

When I drive my 200sx it seems the right front wheel will suddenly start shaking and jerking. It will only do it for a short time then it will stop. Then a little later it will do it again. Car does has alot of miles on it. I have checked the cvg joint, tie rod, sway bar etc. all seem to be tight and in working order. When it does it feels like it's gonna come off. The tire is in good shape. I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

Jack the car up and give the see if the wheel has any movement left to right or top to bottom. If there is no movememnt then your cv joint is ok and tie rod is good. is the a noise when you make a tight turn left or right , it maybe a wheel bearing. Also you have checked the nuts on the wheel itself are all tight?

SOURCE: Vibration at 70 MPH.

Warped or out-of balance brake rotor? Also keep in mind that loose rear differential trailing arms that allow the rear differential to squirm around can also cause steering wheel shake.

Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5. How to reset my ECM or TCM please?

To reset you just disconnect the battery for an hour or two, HOWEVER if you do that you have to reset the security system and engine immobilizer.

Second HOWEVER, your issue will be nothing to do with the ECM or TCM. Vibration is caused by unbalanced reciprocal motion or something loose and moving when it shouldn't.

Check tyre pressures.
Are you Lead Wheel weights in place.
Jack the car up, spin the wheel. Does it run straight and true, or is the wheel oval? Does the tyre have bulges in the tread or on the inner or outer sidewalls?

Spin the wheel again. Does it run smoothly and quietly or are the wheel bearings rough, crunchy and loose?

Grasp the top and bottom of the wheel, push the top and pull the bottom. Is there any play? Do the same front and back of the wheel. Any play there?

Now get underneath, and check Steering Tie Rod ends, top and bottom ball joints for play and wear.

Check the transmission CV Joints for play.

Your vibration problem is in the list above. Outside chance it is engine or transmission mounts

Steering was loose while driving and turning, then suddenly would **** to the right

It sounds like you have at least one bad tie rod end....this is the most likely problem, but I have listed other things to check out.

To figure out which tie rod end(s) are bad, you need to jack the front end up and put it on jackstands, or if you have a buddy that works at a shop that can put it on a lift, that is even better.

With the front end jacked up and the steering unlocked, have somebody turn the wheel left and right and watch as the tie rods (the rods that actually "steer" the wheels) move - there should be no "play" or looseness in either the inner or outer tie rod ends.... the large turnbuckle looking ends on the rods. Most often, it is the outer tie rod ends that go bad, and if it is pulling right on you the one on the right side is most suspect. Also try and hold one wheel at a time still while your buddy steers and see if there is any slop.... there should be ZERO play or slop between the steering wheel and the front wheels.

Bad ball joints can also cause steering problems. With the front still jacked up, grab a wheel and try and shake it up and down, in and out. If you feel it move, replace both the upper and lower balljoints on that wheel (only one set may be bad, but if so, the other is certainly worn!).

Bad wheel bearings can also cause steering problems, and allot of shaking and vibration when you are driving. If you can shake your jacked up wheel any which way and it is loose, or if you spin the wheel and hear allot of crunching noises, you have bad wheel bearings.

All of these problems are serious, and if you have a sudden complete failure of the bad part while you are driving, you can lose control of your truck. You need to determine which of the above is causing your problem and take care of it immediately. The best answer is to go to a qualified mechanic, but if you are up to doing it yourself, be careful and don't try and do it all alone.

Front wheels and steering wheel shake while driving

If you get a bad vibration in your steering wheel at low speeds without braking it is either a bad tire or a bad rim. If you get a vibration at speeds around 45-50+ and goes away you probably have a balance issue. If the vibration only occurs while braking then your rotors are warped. If low speeds it shakes i'd take it to a shop to check your tires.
