I cannot tell how to remove the shift linkage on this transmission, thier are plastic sleeve or bushings holding the linkage rods to the levers and though it apprears they should just pry appart I want to be sure before using pliers and a pry bar.
YES, the PLASTIC Bushing stays, you just pop the Linkage out from the Inside and it presses back in

Problem sounds like an internal pressure problem not a cable. If you are able to shift into all gears using the shifter, the linkage is being moved properly. It cannot "come out of gear" by way of the shifter.
In reality, if you were able to manually put the shift lever on the transmission into any particular gear without any shift cable at all attached, it would stay in that selected position forever till you got under there and moved it again. Depending upon what transmission you are using you may have a throttle cable running between the trans and throttle lever on the throttle body...this may have something to do with your problem but would also affect shift points. Any electronic shift controls are also suspect at this point. have it checked by a competent shop. In not being there myself, I can only offer my thoughts on what I would test going into the problem...after testing a better evaluation can be made. Good luck...Hope it's something simple.

The only thing that you can do is check the trans fluid.Start car,run it through all gears and end in neutral.Handbrake on.Now check the trans fluid level.Make sure engine is warm.If needed add fluid.If this is not the problem,a tranny expert is the go.There is not a lot anyone can do with an auto trans at home.Hope this helps

Well, in the interim, you could make one by cutting a small piece of rubber hose (like fuel line) and putting a flat washer on both ends or checking with a bushing manufacturer and see if you can find one that fits your application. I generally replace steel or plastic bushings with ones made from "oilite" which is generally used in small electric motors it's made from bronze and treated with a lubricant that stays in the metal...they last forever.
Be creative...bushings are used in nearly every machine, not only in cars.

I had same problem fators are important it could be a celenoid in the trans you also could try aaddative and fluid change but if you plan on keeping the jeep get it checked at a good ****** shop!!
