Turn off radio so you wont lose code.disconnect negative battery cable.remove drive belt.get a drain pan to catch coolant.place it under the radiator.then open the radiator drain on the lower right side of radiator.then remove coolant pressure cap and open thermostat bleed valve.BESURE TO PUT COOLANT SOME WHERE SAFE .BECAUSE KIDS AND PETS WILL DRANK IT.know you going to have to move the timing belt.besure to get your engine on TDC AT NUMBER 1 FIRING POSITION.REMOVE THE WATER PUMP BOLTS.AND PUMP.THROW AWAY THE O-RING SEAL.CLEAN GASKET SURFACE DO NOT SCRATCH.INSTALL NEW O-RING DIP IT IN COOLANT.DONT GET DIRT OR GREASE ON IT OR IT WILL LEAK.THEN YOU PUT .PUMP AND O-RING TO THE ENGINE BLOCK.INSTALL THE MOUNTING BOLTS.TORQUE TO 105 INCH POUNDS.THEN YOUR TURN PUMP WITH HANDS MAKE ITS NOT TO TIGHT AND CLEAR. INSTALL THE TIMING BELT LOOK AT TIMING MARKS.GET A HAYNES MANUAL YOU NEED PICTURES TO SEE THE TIMING MARKS.BECAUSE IF TIMING OFF.YOUR ENGINE IS DAMAGED.WHEN YOU GET TIMING RIGHT THEN YOU CLOSE RADIATOR DRAIN.THEN YOU OPEN THERMOSTAT BLEED VALVE.GET A 1/4 INCH CLEAR HOSE ABOUT 48 INCHES LONG.YOU PUT ONE END ON BLEED VALVE AND THE OTHER END IN A EMPTY CONTAINER.TO KEEP COOLANT OFF THE DRIVE BELTS.NOW YOU START FILLING WITH COOLANT BY POUR IT IN THE COOLANT PRESSURE BOTTLE UNTIL A STEADY STREAM OF COOLANT RUN OUT THE THERMOSTAT BLEED VALVE THROUGH THE CLEAR HOSE.GENTLY SQUEEZE TOP RADIATOR HOSE UNTIL AIR OUT OF THE SYSTEM.CLOSE BLEED VALVE REMOVE CLEAR HOSE.FINISH ADDING COOLANT TO COOLANT PRESSURE BOTTLE UNTIL YOU GET TO THE RIGHT LEVEL.PLACE CAP BACK ON COOLANT BOTTLE.RECONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY.START ENGINE.LET IDLE CHECK FOR LEAKS. IF OVERHEATS YOU STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM.LET IT SET A WHILE ADD MORE COOLANT IF NEEDED DONT DRIVE UNTIL IT STOP OVERHEATING.IF OVERHEAT WHILE IDLING WAIT AWHILE CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.DONT OPEN TOO SOON YOU WILL GET SCALDED.KEEP DOING THIS WHEN IT STOP OVER HEATING AIR IS OUT AND YOU CAN DRIVE IT.

Where are the freeze plugs located on a 2001 Dodge Intrepid 2.7

There are several freeze plugs but should only be 2 where the transmission and engine bolt up together. You will have to remove the transmission (transaxle) to replace them. To make 100% sure those are the only thing leaking coolant you may want to invest in a coolant pressure pump tool. They really aren't all tht expensive and will pump the coolant system up to normal operating pressures without having to crank the engine and getting it hot. After you pump the tool up just get a light and look for leaks. Also when it comes to freeze plugs. There is kinda of a unwritten rule (change one, change them all). Because freeze plugs are very inexpensive, but the labor is gonna be high usually. And while a technician is already removing this an that to change one. It will save you on labor in the long run. I promise. Because something caused that one to leak probably won't be long before the others start leaking as well. And you'd have to start over. Hope this helps.

1999 dodge intrepid loseing coolent changed water pump now PO 172 code come s on and runs rough at idel changed plugs, wires, checked timeing marks, vacum leaks Help driving me nuts thank you Tom

Hi,
You need to do a cylinder leakage test. It sounds like you may have a head gasket not sealing properly, and this is where your water loss is going and is causing the engine to run rough also.
A quick test is to remove the radiator cap when the engine is cool, then run the engine till it gets hot and when the water is hot you should start to see the water running along in the radiator. Make sure it is full and make sure no bubbling and squirting of water from the radiator happens. If this happens then it is a good sign that your head gasket needs replacing.
Let me know if you want more information.
Thanks
Jason

I replaced a freeze plug on my 95' dodge intrepid and I still have water leaking. Is there a freeze plug in the back of the engine by the flywheel? If so what do i have to do to change it or where would...

Do you see where the water is comeing out? If its a freeze plug missing it should be gushing out. Are you sure its a freeze plug and not a radiator or a hose ,,,,Look for leaks while car is running and after you shut it off

What can be some reason why a 95 dodge intrepid run hot

You could have a faulty coolant temperature sensor, radiator not working or it is leaking, fans not kicking on, radiator fuses, faulty water pump. If your check engine light is on, best bet, take it to Autozone. They will read it for free. The computer should detect your problem, hopefully. Dodge Intrepid 1996 Water Pump Replacement Needs

a timing belt. the water pump uses it to turn it and you got to take it off to change the pump anyway so you might as well get a new one.also the hydralic timing belt tensioner should be replaced at the same time just to be sure.you will need anti freeze of course as well

I have a 1995 intrepid it doesn´t turns on and we change change the computer what could it be?

If the starter is good and you have fuel at the injector and spark at the plugs at the proper time it should start.

The computer is only there to make everything run good and could be bad but the engine would still run.... badly but still run.

3 things to look for

1--- fuel

2--- spark to the plug

3--- make sure timming is ok.

1995 dodge dakota antifreeze leak

Check out your freeze plugs. They are thin metal cups that press fit into the side of the block. Use a mirror and a light to inspect while the engine is running.
