2002 sunfire ecotec blowing out oil from front of engine

Oil is being blown out from front of engine. seems to be engine oil. yet, when it is running, no leak is seen. the timing chain was repaired a year ago so all the seals and gaskets should still be in good shape. can not get a definate location where it is coming from. it sprayed the frame underneath, front of engine oily, had it up on ramps, watched it, no leak. real head scratcher.

The front of engine is usually where the serpentine belt is located. The side of the engine toward the front of vehicle is different. I'm not trying to split hairs, Just trying to understand? Is it coming out in the area of the belt?
When you had it on the ramps, was the engine running? One thought is too much crankcase pressure?
There is, the oil filter could leak, oil pan gasket, head gasket. Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? It's tough to find a leak if it isn't leaking when you check it.

SOURCE: 2002 Pontiac Sunfire GT. 2.2 Litre

No. The crankshaft pully can be removed through the right wheel well area. (This is the hard part) Once the pully is off, the seal is relatively easy to change.

I have a 1999 sunfire i changed the head of the motor but it does not have an egr can it have worse problems

If you had engine problems, you should have just changed the whole engine. They are dirt cheap and easier to change than ripping the engine apart to change a head. Sunfires, grand ams, cavaliers, aleros and such litter junkyards everywhere.
With these engines (quad four and ecotec), the oil pump and lubrication system is the weak link. Low oil pressure in general as well as oil pump sucking air at high rpms kills these engines by way of oil starvation. I have personally killed these engines accidentally by lead footing them to pass people up. When you push them too hard, you know immediately, kind of like a honda civic.

Where is the oil pan drain plug on a 2005 sunfire

A 2003-05 Sunfire most likely has the Ecotec 2.2 motor. The filter is a cartridge element type which is located on the forward side of the engine on the drivers side; (below and slightly left of the power steering reservoir).

The oil filter is located under (inside) a black cover about 3-4 inches around and has a large hex head nut molded on top of it, to fit a socket on it. When replacing the oil filter element, press the tipped O-ring side of the filter down into the filter cavity until it locks in place. Then place the cover on top and tighten it.

The cover will automatically lock onto the top section of the oil element as it is being tightened. The drain plug is pretty standard and on the oil pan. However, most people are accustomed to a metal oil pan, and when viewing the Ecotec motor they confuse the metal TRANSMISSION pan as the motor oil pan.

The motor oil pan is actually aluminum, and looks like a continuation of the upper motor. For that reason, you don't "see" an oil pan. Knowing this fact, the oil drain plug is now easy to locate. Look at the far passenger side of the metal transmission oil pan. Now look at the very front of that section of the transmission oil pan and follow that ''line of sight'' until you reach the bottom of the aluminum motor (''oil pan''). The oil drain plug is right there, with it's head facing towards the transmission oil pan.

The drain plug (on a 2005 Sunfire) requires a 15mm wrench/socket; and has a built in rubber seal, which should be lubricated with oil before tightening.

2005 pontiac sunbird oil filter location

Your looking for the location of your oil filter on your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. They use a fabric/paper file which is located on the top/front of your engine. If your vehicle has an Ecotec engine, then open your hood. stand directly in the center of your car looking toward the windshield. And when you look down, it's at the front of the engine over to the right a bit. You need a certain tool, or Vice grips to turn the large plastic shaped cover off (Counter clockwise to losen). When it is loose, and you take off the cap. the oil filter will come out with it, you pull it off, and replace it with a new one.

Engine Swap

There are several engines that will fit the 2.2l Ecotec, 2.4L high out put motor, and I have actually seen a chevy cavalier that has a 3800 V6 in it if you want to go all out but in most cases sticking with the ecotec motor or the 2.4 High Out Put motor would be best they are two of the best motors for these cars and since the Sunfire is basically the same car as the cavalier almost any thing motor wise is inner change able between cars depending on the motors i own an 2004 chevy cavalier LS sport and a buddy of myn has a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire and both have the 2.2L Ecotec and are both Manual trans and even most of the interior parts are the same except for some of the dash board components hope this helps you out
