engine stalls , when?
driving sure, but when?
cruising, coasting , stopping, or accelerating , or only on hills.?
it restarts easy and if yes is the CEL lamp in the IP cluster, glowing running ever?
Lamps (any and for sure head lamp) go dim just before the STALL.
stalls can be from many reasons/ (there are tests for all)
1: bad fuel
2: low fuel pressure.
3: bad spark , ever to a tuneup spark parts and filters?
4: engine problems (actual)
5: if only stalls coming to a stop , bad idle controller or EGR failure.

you posted here and not going to a shop means , what..
I guess looking for simple fix, and no tools to do all 5+ tests above?
tools, tests and skills for each are needed. to find it.
unless tune up fixes it, even spark plugs bad, or filters.

The two lines on one side of it has different size pipes. Made this way so you hook them backwards.

Yes, you need to set your camshaft end distributor timing to TDC. (top dead centre). now you start vehicle, and adjust your distributor timing to 10% after tdc, on the coast or 8% inland

The coolant temperature sensor adjust the air to fuel ratio depeneding on the temperature of your engine. If it is bad it will run your engine too rich(to much gas, not enough air) and it will run rought at idle and definatly have black smoke, good-day! its worth a try ! In some cases you can unplug the sensor and the PCM will compensate by running a default air/fuel ratio and in some cases allowing the car to run without the sensor, I'd just replace it.

Use the cheapest oil you can buy from the supermarket and change it every 5000miles and a oil filter every third oil change .it will run for ever like this even more so as its a honda
