Since this last ice storm , parents can not open the driver or passenger door from the outside. They have to get in thru the back doors and reach up and open the front doors from the inside. They are in there 70s so this is not very easy for them. Can somebody tell me how I might be able to try to fix this for them? THANK YOU

if you got acess to a sim jim you can get them open with that, but if you don't know how to use one it best to get someone who does. i know if you call the police they will come out and unlock it for you. if they won't than most body shops have one, and they can open it for you, most likely at a cost, where the police will do it for nothing. as far as fixing once you get them open, most all major auto parts stores have web sites with step by step instructions and exploded views.

The repair will require removal of the door panel and adjustment/replacement of the rod that connects the outside handle to the lock mechanism, or replacement of the handle itself.
SOURCE: I have a '93 Buick Regal Custom. Last year I was
I have this problem every year with my car, 1993 buick regal custom, 3.8. What happens is it gets cold, warms up a bit, and ice or snow melts and gets in the door, then it gets cold again and it freezes. I go to unlock and open the door from the outside and this problem arises.
There is a vertical rod on the left side of the drivers side, right side of the passenger side, that gets bent, from trying to open the door when that mechanism is frozen up. Just bend it back, a TINY bit and it will start working.
I got tired of taking my door apart every time it happened so i cut a little "door" in the cover thing, so i can get at that bar.
I also tried coating it in grease and that seems to lessen the frequency.

either both outside door handles are broken or door handle linkages are loose. remove door panel for visual inspection and verify
