Whine noise A160 auto, air, ps. 2002 w168 when engage drive or reverse from idle stange muffled rattling/harmonic sound for an instant perhaps between 800 to 1000rpm when vehicle starting to move, if in just slightly reve motor similar in neutral I cannot replacate the noise, if I turn on air cond (for load on serpentine belt system) dosn't make any difference, no noise(I try to rule out idler pulley and drive belt harmonic vibration this way) I am thinking as it happens when engage either drive or reverse that maybe transmission issue although vehicle drives properly and changes gears correctly. Have you ever heard of cracked drive plate at crackshaft boss for this model. would this be the likely culprit although no funny sounds at crancking for start. PS the engine mounts are sound and exhaust mountings servicable.

SOURCE: Whining from engine when in gear

Just a thought- remove the oil filler cap when the whine is present - (this checks if PCV valve is faulty, causing high crankcase vacuum, which in turn causes a whistling/whine noise as air leaks past engine oil seals). Worth a check.

Try listening with a short piece of hose pipe to locate immediate area/source of noise.

SOURCE: engine or transmission knock / rattle upon

I had the same problem on my 2006 Lucerne and it was the engine mount located on the front of the vehicle behind the radiator.

SOURCE: noisey drive belt, possibly alternator, belt

sounds like idler bearings but you have to release the tension to check,Also you can check the rest of the pulleys also at this time. I dont think you have to drop the engine.

SOURCE: Vibration through the car Transmission-motor Linkage?

Check to make sure both headlights are tight,,,when it rattles at idle go feel the headlight and hold it and see if the noise and vibration goes away, sometimes the headlight has too much clearance and causes a massive vibration,,if thats not it try...loosening all the motor mounts and rock the car back and forth and them retighten them,it reseetles the mounts and sometimes fixes the issue,,also check the lower engine and trans mounts for wear.

1995 Monte Carlo. Has a very loud rattling/whining noise when I give it gas, sometimes even while idleing

A damaged or defective HARMONIC BALANCER is a likely culprit, especially if you have recently had engine work done.

My A160 Benz semi auto having problem with trnsmission can not engage forword or reverse.

when a transmission is in drive it will always try to drive. even with the foot on the brake it is still trying to drive.
Run the fault codes for the transmission as I suspect there will be a problem in the torque converter clutch/ servo/solenoid .

Hyundai sonata power steering

It could be a leaking hose, and the PS fluid is dropping on the hot exhaust. Check the fluid level in the power steering reservoir. If low or dry, look for a leak.
I don't know about the rattling-better have someone look at it.

Hi, may I know crankshaft pulley having a bush intact?mine was 98' accord sv4, it was a noise appear when air cond. compressor engaged, i thought it was compressor noise, but aircond mechanic told me it...

you do not mention the type of noise rattle , squeal , rumble , grinding so any answer is a guess
the only noise from a crankshaft pulley would be a squeal/scream from a failed harmonic balance rubber insert
when the ac compressor is engaged the extra load on the pulley would make it slip on the rubber
however as the ac compressor would not be driving long before the crank pulley came apart I suspect that the mechanic was not experienced enough to advise correctly
suggest that you get a second opinion from an accredited professional ac specialist

2002 dodge durango whinning noise will your

Thank you for getting back to me. I would like you to check your transmission fluid. start the engine and let it warm up at idle speed for about 15 min and check the fluid. It sounds like you do not have enough in it, there for the whining noise with increase of speed since your transmission is speeding up with the rate of your vehicle. If this does not help and the problem persist please let me know. If the noise you were hearing was coming from the u joints of the vehicle it would not make a whining noise with increase of speed. The u joints will only make a noise when they are going bad when the vehicle is shifted into any gear from the shifter( EX: park to drive, park to reverse ECT.)

95 4Runner, hearing a rattling sound underneath, from drive train perhaps (do not think it is trainie, drive rod or rear gear box?), sound occurs during drive acceleration or braking -- indicating loose...

rattling when doing what? if it rattles when it is running or when it is driving, this will tell you roughly where to look. If rattling while idling, coming from engine or transmission. If you ONLY hear it when you are driving, check you U joint. they can wear out and start to rattle and clunk sometimes, especially when going in and out of gear...reverse to drive etc...

Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.
