2003 Chev Silverado, remote entry problem.

2003 Chev Silverado, remote entry will not work. Dealer tested fobs (ok) but says the BCM will not communicate with the receiver. Wants $500 for new BCM. However doors all receive lock signal at ~20 mph, which indicates BCM is communicating with door modules. Could it be the receiver, and if so where is it?

SOURCE: driver door won't lock with key fob

Check the locking solenoid / actuator in the door behind the panel, could be burned out or loose wire. It should take about 20-30 minutes to open, fix it and close the door panel if there's no major problem. Autozone might be able to help out with a solenoid.

SOURCE: hazard lights flash by themselves, doors won't stay locked (unlock by themselves) key fob won't work.

I has a similar problem and I just took the battery out of my remote. I think there is a problem/ short in the remote. It's as if the button is being pressed when it is not. I will use my spare one in the mean time. It was driving me crazy becuase I was driving long distance at the time and when I removed the battery it stopped. I hope this works for you!

SOURCE: key fob interference problem 2003 altima

Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

Most likely the remote has failed. If you have another remote for the car, try it. All features should work on the spare remote. You will need to get another remote and program it to correct this. Here is a link on how to program it.

Keyless Entry System Description and Operation (with Accessory 2 Way Remote)
Keyless Entry System Description and Operation (without Accessory 2 Way remote)

The keyless entry system is a vehicle entry device. The keyless entry system is used in conjunction with the body control module (BCM) to remotely activate certain vehicle features. Keyless entry will lock/unlock the doors/liftgate when a corresponding button on the keyless entry transmitter is pressed. This is accomplished by the transmitter sending a radio frequency to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). The RCDLR interprets the signal and activates the requested function via a serial data message to the BCM. A low transmitter or vehicle battery or radio frequency (RF) interference from aftermarket devices, such as 2-way radios, power inverters, computers, etc., may cause a system malfunction. High RF traffic areas may also cause interference that could lead to a malfunction. Keyless entry allows you to operate the following components:
• Door locks
• Liftgate lock
• Vehicle locator/Panic alarm
• Illuminated entry lamps
• Remote vehicle start
The keyless entry system has the following components:
• Keyless entry transmitters
• Keyless entry antenna
• 2 Way Advanced Remote Start RCDLR
• BCM

Your best bet , take it to a GM dealer .

The driver's side door will not lock or unlock via remote control. What is the solution for this? All other doors lock/unlock when remote is used.

is it freezing there? (ice happens)
car drives perfectly day and night? (tells me battery not dead or weak)

does outside metal key work, does inside lock lever work?
if not its frozen inside.

ill assume the 2 mech, ways work and solenoid is dead.
get car serviced?
do you have tools, and skills?
yes/no?

this, its a solenoid. seen below. inside the door.
5003 378AA - 97 keyless entry (electronics,only for 1997)

The FOB battery weak can cause this, try both fobs yet.
one door RKE receiver (hidden below) can be weaker or stronger.
and may fail if the RKE (fob) is weak. Rem.key entry=RKE
so a new battery in the fob is a now thing.
22year old FBO battery? hopeless if ever.
ok if the manual doors work ok and only a good fob fails (both)
(car came with 2 so...)
then the problems is below.
here is an example of how complex it can be. and real solutions.
93-97 location. reciever.
Just pry up the defroster grille panel and it will be on the passenger side, held in by 2 screws.
scan the PCM first. looking for RKE errors, BCM errors>?
if 12vdc does not reach the solenoid,
then the Door controller failed or the BCm fail to sen the command or the remote receiver (entry) module never sent it.
my guess is the RER is ok, as it opened other doors.
so that leaves, BCM mess up. or soldenoid bad.

here is the receiver. that is failing, if 2 fresh fobs fail.

Rocker switches, nor remote will lock or unlock doors fuse good

So , the power door locks won't lock or unlock with switches inside the vehicle or with the keyless entry remote fob.??? Is this correct ????
Do you know what a BCM - body control module is ? Do you know what diagnostic trouble codes are ? If not your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a GM dealer or someother qualified repair shop.
DTC B3142 or B3143
The body control module (BCM) provides an output to the driver switch assembly through the door unlock control circuit for controlling automatic door unlock, anti-lockout, and keyless entry unlock functions.
DTC B3152 or B3153
It could be the driver door master switch , could have broken wires inside the rubber boot from the body to the door . Do the power windows work ?
The keyless entry system has the following main components:
• The transmitters
• The body control module (BCM)
When you press a button on a transmitter, the transmitter sends a signal to the BCM. The BCM interprets the signal and activates the requested function.

How did you do this ,,checked and made sure locks and remote programmed, they were, but still do not work ?????

Need a scan tool to program
Important: All key fobs must be programmed each time any one fob is programmed. The scan tool must stay connected until all of the transmitters are programmed.
Install a scan tool and navigate to the BCM Module Setup menu.
Select Program Key Fobs.
Follow the scan tool on-screen directions.
When the programming operations have completed, operate the transmitter functions to verify correct system operation.

Many times the dealer gives you a valet key made to give to the vet to park your car, these keys work even though the theft deterant system is active, but they will only work for short periods untill the theft system activates and imobolizes the vehicle. The system is reset when the valet brings your vehicle and you insert your normal (chiped) key.

Where is the bcm program fuse on a 2005 pontiac montana sv6

The BCM program fuse on a 2005 Montanna SV6 is called something different in the manual. It's called a “Keyless Entry Module” fuse and it is fuse #7. The fuse panel is located on the passenger side on the side of the dash. There is a cover with an indent hole in it to pull the fuse cover off. It's really hard to pull it off and it almost seems like your going to break it when your trying to get if off. Keep pulling, it will come off! On the fuse cover, fuse #7 is labeled " RFA MDLS" which is again different than what is in the manual. I followed the procedure to reprogram my "Key Fob" and within 45secs, I had reprogrammed my key FOB! I was so excited, because, I have been trying locate the BCM fuse for 4 weeks. I think GMC does not want us to know it’s location or name, so you would have to go into a dealership to get your Key Fobs reprogrammed costing about a $100 for a minute of work.

1. Keep the windows open as a safety measure, then,
2. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
3. Remove the “RFA MDLS” (fuse #7 ,BCM PRGRM fuse, Keyless Entry fuse) from the fuse panel.
4. Close all of the doors.
5. Close the liftgate.
6. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to ACC.
7. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second.
8. Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard when the system enters the BCM programming/diagnostic mode.
9. Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.
10. Important
After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful programming.
11. Repeat the previous step on each additional transmitter to be programmed.
12. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder
13. Install the “RFA MDLS” fuse ( fuse #7 ,BCM PRGRM fuse, Keyless Entry fuse) back into the fuse panel.
14. Press on the key fob functions (EG. Lock, Unlock) to verify correct operation.

2003 Tiburon GT Remote Key

Seriously don't use the factory alarm system / keyless entry.

While my car was under warranty, the alarm malfunctioned and it wouldn't disarm. The solution was to have the car towed to a dealership and install a new BCM. This would have cost me over $1,000 - and it's not an isolated case.

Don't get a Hyundai key fob. Have an after market alarm / keyless entry installed. It will be cheaper & easier.

Keyless Entry Key Doesn't Work

Regarding the remote transmitter issue: Take the remote transmitter to your Toyota dealer. Ask them to test your transmitter with their hand-held RF detector. All Toyota dealers are required to have one of these devices. The RF detector will test the remote to see if it is indeed transmitting the proper RF out of the transmitter, and the strength of the RF signal. If there is no signal, the remote has failed (unfortunatly common), and the remote will need to be replaced and reprogrammed to the vehicle. I do this quite regularly, and rarely do I tell customers taht they need to spend 800 dollars for such a simple diagnosis/fix. The keyless system is very reliable. I rarely change the ECU for the keyless, unless somebody somehow gets the ECU wet, then it def needs replaced. Hope this helps.
