How to fit fan belt on pegeout 406 - 1990 Peugeot 405

Buy a Haynes Workshop Manual for Peugeot 406 1999-2002 PN 3982. Definitely it will help. It is a relatively easy job. Normal, the drive belt is a life time component if you keep the car properly. Mine is 2004 406 Coupe 2.0 auto. The belt is still in top condition.

I have had this problem before and found my tension pulley to be bad

If this vehicle is a 99 then its a electric fan ,the viscous fan version is alot older and has a fan belt that goes around a corner ,yes it has a pulley arrangement that allows the long belt to turn through 90 degrees with a viscous fan and this version is about 20+ yrs old ,if this is a 99 model then their is a thermo switch in the radiator but the later versions use a sensor and a relay ,If vehicle used in a city then you can always fit a manual overide switch as well .Nice motors these cars though they run for ever and a day

your abs fault will be the right rear wheel speed sensor, it wont need replacing you just neet to remove the brake caliper and caliper frame, remove brake disc so you can get to the allen key bolt that holds the sensor in. remove the sensor and clean up where it sits and re-fit. as for the speedo fault i think the speedo drive is located on top of the diff. you may want to try removing the clocks, unpluging them and pluging them back in again

timing belts take between half an hour and a hour to fit.

if i turn on fan it stops and starts and stop and starts

just change it ,its easy to do it ,just remove the plastic cover in the inner wing first

Better get a repair manual,

You've covered all the reasons why fan belts shred. I would suggest looking closer, and making sure the bearings are good in all belt driven devices.
