Yesterday at the Doctor's office the van would not start. This has happened before. Last fall it started it. When you turned the key it would turn the engine over but would not start. Since my son is disabled and we have many Dr appointments we put it in the shop as we didn't want to be stranded in Jacksonville with no way to get home. Sometimes the next day or two it would start right up. and run for several weeks with no problem. The mechanic changed the ignition housing and key thinking it was a security problem. When he put it on the analyzer machine it showed nothing. It ran good for several weeks. Then it happened again. Back to the shop. He tried to get a security sensor from Chevy but they were back logged and no part. He did find a security bypass sensor, put it in and it ran for 2 months until yesterday and it left us at the Drs office. We had to have a wrecker bring it home. This morning when I tried it, it started right up several times. We are all at our wits end. Please help
Considering the history I suggest the next step should be to take a look inside the fuel tank. It is far from unknown for rags, plastic bags and suchlike to find a way inside and water ingress can also be a problem.
Once you can be assured of a consistent fuel supply the task of diagnosis can go forward. It is important to try and locate the problem while the problem actually exists because some electrical and mechanical faults do not leave a trail. A temporary tell-tale light could be fitted to the fuel pump supply for instance, as could a fuel pressure gauge. These things over time will provide clues toward finding the fault.
Your mechanic friend could show you how to check the spark for yourself or the injector pulse and lend you the tools...
Something that happens so rarely and seemingly randomly is likely to have an underlying pattern; length of journey, weather, place you bought fuel, parked on a hill and so forth. Finding the pattern can be invaluable.
Good luck!

you need to clean your battery conections, there is likely a lot of corrosion in the positive cable. Put on your rubber gloves and eye protection take out a tooth brush or small wire brush, baking soda, water a small disposable container (butter cup) and an 8 mm or 5/16 inch wrench. disconect the neg battery cable inspect it, remove the "BOLT" it is fitted into the rubber tight but if you push and stretch it it will come out, clean it with the a baking soda and water mix. about 3 table spoons of baking soda to a cup of water, it should be a little thick, but not as thick as toothpaste. scrub till it shines adn rinse with water. do the same for the positive cable, seperate the two cables and clean all surfaces. to reassemble, conect positive side first and neg side last. whala starts every time.

It's hard to figure out whats going on with out any codes. Im thinking maybe the fuel pump. To check it after it stops and doe'snt start squirt some starting fluid into the carb and see if it wants to start. If it trys to start then it's a fuel problem.
