I'm assuming you mean the B2500? The clearance normally adjusts itself hydraulically. If your just checking the clearance it should be no more than 0.15 mm {0.0059 in} on a Cold engine.
Yes it is a "service soon" light. It means something is wrong or up. You should have it checked at the dealer or an auto repair shop. :-) If the mileage is around 50,000 or 100,000 miles, the service light will likely come on. I think all cars do this. I think the dealers or the auto repair place can turn it off.
There is to much to list that will cause this problem. from vacuum leaks to fuel pump to sensors. You need to have the codes read and repost. This will give you an idea where to start. just a note.... If you get an 02 code, it doesn't mean the 02 senosr is bad. same with all the codes. There could be other things that will pop a code.
