Temp gauge does not move off dead cold.EVER plenty of heat & coolant. jumped across 2wire connector with no effect. replaced sensor and gauge cluster (used). no difference. grounded both wires in connecter one at a time. no effect. finally measured volts to ground on both wires one at a time. got 4.69 on 1 and zero on the other. I assume 4.69 ref volts means this is a computer sensor and not for the gauge which I expected to be a typical 1wire connector. cant find such an animal on eng anywhere. parts stores only list the one sensor which has been replaced. im stuck. help

In one case I have seen the spout plug was bad.

there are 2 item located in the same area one is a little below the other.it is on the housing of the one you replaced, the top one is a low coolant sensor and the one on the bottom is the temp sensor.

Hi. the vdc at the sensor seems to be fine. if the ground is sufficient, i would replace the gauge. its malfunctioning. Check for loose connection at gauge before replacing the gauge.
Possibly, i would check the sending unit and of course the wires that connect to the temp prob. They often become worn or even short out on other wires. I suspect that the gage is telling the truth and you have a blown head gasket. Check the oil for water. Check the water level and see if you are losing water. good luck

try changing the headlight switch,I had a similar problem only mine happened after I accidentaly short out when I was replacing the horn pad and for some reason when I replaced the headlight switch the problem went away.
