please help,MY 1999 Ford windstar wont start,previous to this as i was driving the dash gauges went crazy, when i try to turn it over there's no sound at all,no clickin,starter,alt,battery are good,headlights work, i put a screwdriver on the starter it wanted to run but couldn't, anyone know what's wrong,

If you have confirmed that power is going to the starter. If you hold the key on start for a few secounds it should be easy to tel. You can try with a jumper cable right to the starter. Try raping on the starter with medium blows with a hammer. the Cooper dust in side the starter can cause it to stop working. This would only fix it temporarily. But on many ocasions this has allowed one more start. If you like me . Take th starter a part and clean well with electronic cleaner and compressed air and bench test. If you buy a new one get a good one.I too have a 1999 Winstar that has gages that go crazy. I am in the process of trying to solve. I took the instrument cluster out checked for power and ground and worked the connections in and out. road tested with sitting on the dash and seamed to work. woulnt know for sure as it is an interment problem that is getter worse. One note is that with the instrument panel un plugged the car will not run or start.
Remove the negative battery lead fr about ten minutes then reconnect. this will cause the computer to reboot
