I developed a bad oil leak at the front of my crankshaft. When I R&Red the crank seal, I accidentally scratched the crank nose while trying to pry out the leaking seal with a screwdriver. I can feel a burr. It is big enough that it took out a replacement seal in two minutes of running. The scratch is too far inside the water pump casting for me to see or easily access it. Someone suggested using a Dremel tool to remove the burr. I've also tried to locate a "crank saver" for the crank nose on the LS400 motor, but nobody seem to make one to fit it. Any suggestions or help locating a crank saver would be appreciated. Thanks, Art

core plugs they are called ,not freeze plugs and they are for the manufacture of the block to remove the casting sand.if you keep antifreeze in system they do not corrode not sure what engine in these things only ever seen one that i imported for someone and the paperwork for this was horrendous.look behind engine with a torch and a mirror and i have no doubt you are correct about the core plugs .only ever seen a diesel version .

freeze plugs will be located towards bottom of the engine. It could be the water pump, or a bad hose.

I am going to see a mechanic - my trusted mechanic who does not nickel and dime me - to see what this is. I have the same problem and he told me he has never done this job on a Camry and is unsure. Given the miles, he has suggested that maybe it is time to part ways with the car. I am going to ask him if he will put some florescent dye in it and let me drive it for 50-100 mi and then check to see where the leak is and fix it. Let you know what happens. I have to try, the car is solid.

Dear Calvin,
Just Have Your Front Crank Seal Replaced. The Water Pump Does not Need To Be Replaced At This Time. Try Taking It To Two More Mechanics. See what They Say. And Decide On A Fix.
Hope This Helps,
Alex :o)
