Break lights on hyundai elantra wont switch off

Check for a switch along (and next to) the arm of the brake pedal. Sometimes there is a plastic piece on the arm that presses a plunger in when you let off the brakes. If that plastic piece breaks, nothing pushes the plunger in on the switch to turn off the lights when you let off the pedal. Had this issue on my 97 Accord. Or the switch itself could be bad.

So if your Elantra won't start, turn the key to where you can move the shift .... Having exact same problem on my 2011 elantradid you find out ...

The break light switch is mostly found above the break pedal .and is held in place by two nuts one on the top and a lock nut on the bottom . Just remove the bottom nut and slide out of place .

Check switch where brake pedal pivots under dash.

Could be be have somebody to check you break switch wich is located on must of the car at the break pedal assy.

You may have a blown fuse. Have you checked your fuses. If not, the fuse you will want to check is in the fuse panel inside the vehicle. Below is a diagram of the fuse layout. The fuse you will want to check is the fuse in the number 16 position. The other possible problem could be the brake light switch located up under the dash on the brake pedal shaft. Just above your brake pedal under dash, small plastic switch w/ a couple of wires coming from it.

You are probably out of brake fluid. Check level and then bleed brakes. Either that or you have a brake in your break lines somewhere.

There's a small rubber pad which sits on the brake pedal arm, and holds the brake light switch OFF when the pedal is released. When this rubber pad falls off, the brake light switch is on all the time, not just when the pedal is pressed down. Find the rubber pad, and glue it back on, or make a replacement from cardboard, duct tape, whatever.
