The switch that controls this is attached to your brake pedal itself. You'll have to lay on the floor, looking up under your dash and you'll see a couple of wires attached to the switch that is attached to the pedal. Spray some WD40 all around that switch, pump the pedal a few times and all should be well.

My stop light and brake lights will not go out. Any suggestions? It is a 2005 Elantra.

Check for a switch along (and next to) the arm of the brake pedal. Sometimes there is a plastic piece on the arm that presses a plunger in when you let off the brakes. If that plastic piece breaks, nothing pushes the plunger in on the switch to turn off the lights when you let off the pedal. Had this issue on my 97 Accord. Or the switch itself could be bad.

I need to replace the brake light switch on a2006 Hyundai Elantra. I cannot find a video to show me how.

The break light switch is mostly found above the break pedal .and is held in place by two nuts one on the top and a lock nut on the bottom . Just remove the bottom nut and slide out of place .

My break lights don't work

You may have a blown fuse. Have you checked your fuses. If not, the fuse you will want to check is in the fuse panel inside the vehicle. Below is a diagram of the fuse layout. The fuse you will want to check is the fuse in the number 16 position. The other possible problem could be the brake light switch located up under the dash on the brake pedal shaft. I hope this helps.

2008 hyundai elantra. All lights work on the rear of the car except brake lights. Fuses are good. no power to break lights when break peddal is depresed.

The most widespread Hyundai recall, affecting up to 531,894 2005-2008 Accent, Azera, Elantra, Entourage, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson, and Veracruz models, is NHTSA Campaign 09V122000. It is focused on a malfunctioning stop lamp switch that may prevent brake lights from illuminating when the pedal is depressed (the same switch may also cause them to stay lit after the brakes are released).
Owners of affected vehicles may contact Hyundai Customer Service at 1-800-633-5151, call the NHTSA Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or visit SAFERCAR.GOV

What happens when brake pedal goes to floor on 2005 hyundai elantra

You are probably out of brake fluid. Check level and then bleed brakes. Either that or you have a brake in your break lines somewhere.

The rear brake lights on my 2001 Hyundai Elantra won't turn off

There's a small rubber pad which sits on the brake pedal arm, and holds the brake light switch OFF when the pedal is released. When this rubber pad falls off, the brake light switch is on all the time, not just when the pedal is pressed down. Find the rubber pad, and glue it back on, or make a replacement from cardboard, duct tape, whatever.
