I just bought a pop up camper that has electric brakes factory installed on the camper. How do I know/find out if my truck is prewired for trailer hook up or electric brake controller?

The brake switch at the pedal does have six wires, but none go to the multifunction switch (on the steering column). The white wire with tan tracer goes to the combination flasher to be integrated with the turn signals/hazard lights. The combination flasher is under the dash next to the steering column and has a sixteen pin connector (ten of which have wires).
This is for a 2003, but trailer wiring is typically standard. Only the AUX and center pin on occasion are wired for different functions:
Center: Back-up Lamps (VT/BK) 1-o'clock: Battery (RD/TN) 3-o'clock: Stop/Right Turn (BK/PK) 5-o'clock: Electric Brake (LB) 7-o'clock: Ground (BK) 9-o'clock: Stop/Left Turn (DG/RD) 11-o'clock: Running Lights (BK/OR)
Good Morning, I have seen this done and done this same thing before. Normally you will just tie into your bake light at the tail light depending on how it (the camper) is set up. You could also tie into the one into the third brake light. I hope this helps you out it really isn't bad. If you have any more questions pleae feel free to let m know. Thanks, Joey
there is no factory connector you must tap into the existing wiring for brake, turn signals, tail and running lights, they make special adapters to "piggy back" into these wiries, U-Haul trailer rental can do (install and sell) this kit for u very cheap.
Ask dealer if it has a towing package on it. If it does, you usually just pop fuse in under hood for electric brakes, and harness to adapt into is usually near or at rear bumper. Even if it doesn't have brake wire, you should still be able to install adapter at rear, for lights etc. which is available from dealer or auto supply places, then you may have to run electric brakes separate.
all you need is a cheap continuity tester, any one to help tap on the brakes..7pin is just like the 4 pin w/extra power wire for acc.lites, electric brakes.when you buy the 7pin rec.,comes w/wiring schematic standard to all trailer rec.- you can do it..kev-mn.
