2001 Civic LX "maintenance required" light flashes

After an oil change, the maintenance require light flashes when I start my car. After a few flashes, it does not appear. My boyfriend thinks that the mechanic did not reset it once he changed the oil. I don't have a manual to know how to reset it. Please advise to do so. Thanks.

Hate to say it, but your boyfriend is correct. It is often overlooked by people who don't do the same cars all the time.

Maintenance required light is on

If you take your civic into a Honda dealer for regular maintenance they should reset it for you. Even most Lube shops do as well. But if you do your own vehicle services like oil changes (which is what that light is there for) then here's how you can reset it.

  1. put your key in the ignition but do NOT turn it.
  2. press and hold the Odometer/Trip button.
  3. while holding the Odometer/Trip button, turn the key to the ON position but do NOT start the engine.
  4. As you hold the Odometer/Trip button, after about 10-15 seconds the Maintenance required light should turn itself off.
  5. Once the Maintenance required light is off, turn the key into the off position then release the Odometer/Trip button.
That should do it. Hope this helps

Start when the battery load voltage change ... the lack of instantaneous voltage, all right, normal.

Reset maintenance light

If I remember correctly, on the dash you have a select button. Hold the button down then turn the key on, until the maintenance light blinks and goes out. Turn the key off then back on and your light should be out.

Maintenance Required light came and flashed a few times, then went off. Don't have a manual, what needs to be done?

Change your oil, and reset the light. With the ignition off, hold down your trip reset button, turn the ignition on, car off, until the maintenance light blinks, then it is reset.

Maintenance required

Hello, Has the light changed colour or do you mean just come on? if changed then this could mean a service is due. Most cars nowadays have sevice interval limits programmed into the odometer/Speedo so that when certain mileage is reached it warns you.
If the light has come on unexpectidly then maybe a fault? but judging by your brief description it does look like a service is due. I would get it to a Technician or if you are capable of servicing i.e, oil, filters and general engine overhaul then after the full service try turning the ignition on holding down the buttons (for 15 seconds or so) on the speedo face this may turn out the light.

My Maintenance Required light flashes

The light comes on if you've gone twice as far as is recommended since your last oil change.

You can reset it by holding the odometer button in, while turning the key from off to run (not start). Hold the button in until the light goes out. Then start it.

As for the rumbling, does it rumble when in park and the gas is pressed? What about neutral with the gas pressed?

Does the rumbling coincide with a sudden change in RPM? If so, this indicates it's a gear shift issue.
