Good day I hope you can help me, I have a 2006 Audi A4 2lt with a 20 valve ALT motor. I had to do 4 outlet valves because the camb belt slipped, I had the valves put in and checked that they all seal properly, I put new valve stem seals in as well, I put the head back on using a new head gasket and new head bolts, the chain timing is on its marks, the camb belt timing is on its marks, when the chain timing is on mark the camb loabs on piston one face each other at a slight upwards position. Here is my problem when I start the car it sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders only and the motor is noisy if I rev the car slightly it seems to run smoother but still noisy on the cambs, the car smokes white but it seems to be more steam like, the only thing I haven't done was change the oil as I wanted to run it to work all the water and chemicals out so I can put clean fresh oil in. this is what I have checked 1. I checked spark on all plugs and seems fine 2. checked coil packs and it seems fine 3. took out the plugs and swung the motor to see if there is water in the cylinders and seems fine 4.i even stripped down and rechecked the camb chain timing and seems fine . has any one got a idea of what could be the cause if this ? thanks a million Robert
Robert your going have to check the oil pressure the oil pumps on these engines tend to let go. What happens the key way that drives the gear strips and at low rpms it doesn't pump oil to the top of the motor but when you rev it the gear spins a little faster that's why it makes less noise you will have to replace the oil pump. As for the missing the hydrolic lifters are no working properly because of the low oil pressure.

Hi,
Audis are not very common in mycountry but from what I can gather:
Themark for the crankshaft gear is on the cover you have to remove inorder to get at the timing belt. The sprocket you may be having troublewith is the intermediate shaft (in front of the water pump) and I don'tbelieve that one matters at all since it doesn't drive any of the cams. The intake cams are driven by a chain off of the exhaust cam shaft soonly the exhaust cam is driven directly by the timing belt.
Additionally, you may benefit from the Audi A4 Service Manual and/or Audi A4 Cabriolet Workshop Manual.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
SOURCE: hi.my a4's overheating and seemingly no oil pressure.
well you may have put the gasket back on wrong blocking the oil hole which supplies the oil to the head, this would cause the low oil pressure and the oil light coming on.
If the gasket is on the wrong way it may be causing the overheating problem as well by blocking or partially blocking the water holes in the head that allow the water to get to the head and cool it down.
these are the only things I can think of apart from maybe a cracked block caused by the overheating but that would not explain the lack of oil to the rockers
Hope this helps

I bet that you have removed the battery recently. Or had a dead battery. The coil problem is a major problem on the Audi A4. They have been and still are. One thing that you are suppose to do, that is usually not done when replacing the coil packs is replacing the connectors also. If and when the battery was removed then you have to do a throttle adaptation. I would think that the shop would have done this. If not this will continue to cause problems.
