96 Rav4 air conditioner blows cold 10 min. then warm

Philip, You may have to have a good tech, check,diagnose and estimate repair. Could be a few things causing poor AC, recheck your charge level,check your fan at the condenser, make sure the condenser isn't obstructed, compressor clutch could be faulty, system could be plugged with contaminates limiting refrigerant flow.You say the system has been recharged, was it done properly, if not system could be plugged. AC system should of had system checked for leaks,evacuated, flushed, new orifice tube, then recharged with proper quantities of oil and refrigerant. heater will blow cold till engine warms up ??

best to take and have re gassed apprx 40£ probably needs top up if on and off not enough pressure

Could be a blend door problem under the dash.

I just had a problem like that on my 96 passat tdi , there is a door on the pasages where the air goes through the heater core and a/c radiator thinghy which gives out the cold,and that litle door which redirects the air between the heather and cooler ,is mad of a sheet metal with big holes on it and covered whit a dense sponge and that sponge is breaking of trough out the years so the air passes through dose holes therefore the air passes by the heather core and the cooler part at the same time so when the car warms up no more cooling because it also heats it up .

you have to take out the shifter cover ,one piece with hand brake ,and front of it there is a air redirecting duct to the foot ,if you remove that you will see that door ,and glue some thing on it ,it is dificult ,it is hard to accces but posible

you can also check or maybe you remember if tini sponge pieces been blown out through the vent grills ,good luck ,

In mornings it blows cold air even when temp gage shows warm. After 20 min of driving it gets warm not hot warm.
In afternoom it blows hot within 10 min.

Sounds like your heater core is leaking in the front.

make sure plenty of air flow threw radiantor and condenser if not replace fan clutch

CHECK YOUR CONDENSER IT MIGHT NOT BE GROUNDED. MINE DID THE SAME THING IT WOULD COME ON AND THE CONDENSER WOULD RUN FOR A FEW MIN. THEN KICK OFF AND NOT COME BACK ON MAKING IT BLOW COOL AND NOT COLD

Hi Moonaw,
Take the vehicle to an expert on AC and ask them to check the gas pressure. If that's ok, then have the evaporator (that's the thing that looks like a small radiator which is the heat exchange unit inside the cabin. also have them check the expansion valve for the rear compartment...The fault must be in that section as the condenser, dryer and compressor are common to both front and rear outputs.
