As long as it is the same engine size it will bolt up you just might have to swap over some of your old parts if any are different.

I don't know how to tell you this, but there is not much you are going to be able to do about a 26-year-old Pontiac equipped with a 305 when is comes to drinking gas. You may be able to help it some, but it is going to like gas anyway.
With all that said, you need to check for fault codes in the computer when you have the emissions fuse in.
You can read the codes from your computer by using a piece of wire or a paperclip to "short" pins "A" and "B" together in your data link connector. Pin B is your test terminal and pin A is ground - so what you are doing is grounding pin B. Then turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. Count the flashes of the check engine light to read the codes. All codes will be two-digit codes. For example: 3 flashes, then a short pause, then 4 flashes would be code 34. one flash, then a short pause and then 2 flashes would be code 12, etc.. If there is more than one code, it will repeat each code 3 times, then move on to the next code. I recommend reading the codes several times to make sure you are reading them correctly.
Once you have the flash code(s), post it in a comment on this page and I will give you the description of what the code means.
