Heads gaskets replaced, new radiator, oil change etc. I need to get a tune up still. The problem is I have to fill the radiator everyday with water. There are no leaks or puddles on the concrete. Water does not bubble with cap off and engine on and there is no water in the oil or coming out of the tailpipe. The previous owner took the water reservoir out to make room for a cold air intake. There is no water reservoir nor a hose running from the radiator to the reservoir. There is just an opening where a hose would go by the radiator cap. Could the missing reservoir and hose be the cause of the water leaking from the radiator?
Yes, not having an overflow reservoir for your radiator will cause you to lose water. As your engine warms up the water expands and creates pressure in the cooling system. When the pressure reaches a certain point(usually about 15 psi.) the radiator releives the pressure by releasing water into the overflow tank. When the engine cools back down the water shrinks pulling water back into the radiator from the overflow. If there is no overflow, the everytime the engine warms up on a drive water will be lost and not recovered on cooldown.
What do you do about it?
