Your transmission is sealed and has no dipstick for a level check, all models of VW and Audi are this way, this started in the late 90's, why did they do this? VW/Audi don't want owners overfilling there transmission's, if the fluid is not at 95-113 Degrees Fahrenheit then you can overfill thinking the level is low and not taking expansion into account.

First look for a vacuum leak in all the vacuum hoses leading to the throttle body and on the intake manifold itself. Sometimes it helps to use a piece of hose as a makeshift stethoscope to listen for tell-tale hissing at the site of a leak. not too familiar with caravell however the water pump may be driven by the cambelt as many engines are today which would entail the cambelt being renewed +tensioner as well as waterpump if this is the reason for asking its location ?

starts for 3 secs. then cuts off, no spark and no pulse on injector and this model does not have transponder

Turns out the problem was a broken wire at a junction below the carpet below the drivers seat. Took my mechanic 4.5 hours to fix it nightmare had to take seat out handbrake lever etc to get to it!!
