Remove the coil pack and look at bottom of it if it shows any cracks coil is bad very common on these vans if you have a noid light check for injector pulse on #4 if you have pulse and good blue spark most likely the injector is bad you have to remove upper plenum to get injectors out let me know how you make out

Still trouble with my 2001 Ford Windstar after replacing spark plugs and wires. It always starts instantly though still running a little rough. Sometimes the power doesn't kick right in to climb

I would suggest you run a compression check on this engine and also have the coolant recovery tank tested for the presence of combustion gases with a gas analyzer, any gases would indicate a leaking head gasket. Any engine cylinder that is lower than 5% of the highest reading cylinder in pounds per square inch has a problem like a scored cylinder or leaking intake or exhaust valve seat.

My 95 Windstar idles very roughly. It starts just fine but after about 4 to 5 minutes it starts idling roughly. I put a new air filter in but that didn't do anything.

Hi, Try to replace fuel filter. It maybe clogged up and making engine run rough or poor. Also check and replace spark plugs. A bad spark plug will make it run rough too. Good luck.

I have a 2001 ford windstar with the 3.8L it runs rough and it does not set the checked engine light checked wires and coil and it is still runs rough even in drive

Have you check for vacume leaks. This would make run rough but not set off you check engine light. If no leaks are found might want to change your vacume pump. Located in front of engine where all your vacume lines run to, Looks like a sm filter. This is usually priced less then $10, Good luck to you.

We have a 2001 ford windstar with a 3.8, it started running rough and then the check engine light started flashing, we stopped driving it, pulled the codes and it was a p0303, we replaced the spark plug...

It's common for ignition coils to go on these vehicles. If you have a spark tester (auto parts store) install it on your #3 plug wire and check for a strong spark. By swapping the wire you obviously eliminated it as a possibility. There's always a chance that you have a compression problem or ad injector problem but chances are it's just a bad ignition coil. Mark the wires then remove them. You can remove the coil without accessing major components but it will be tight. Disconnect the connector and remove the bolts.

If not, look at the coil for hairline cracks. I see a lot of coils go bad and the vehicle will run worse when it's damp or raining out. Good luck!

Just bought a used Ford Escape 2001 and the "check engine light is constantly on. Diagnostic tests reads malfunctioning cylinder #4. What does this mean and what is involved in getting it fixed?

might be something as simple as changing the spark plug or related wire, could also be damadge to the valve train or piston and cylinder bore

Check engine light on, engine running rough

evaporator is part of the fuel system, missfiring could be spark plug or bad coil

Ford Escape 3L 2002 Rough idle

generally, when the engine is washed, water gets trapped behind the spark unit and stays there, creating a shorting path for spark plug current. best to dis-mount the spark unit (follow plug wires back to source) and dry and clean it thoroughly.
