Shuts off while driving but starts up

I was driveing 2003 kea seadona never had and problems with it no engine lights on nothing just ran fine wwhen 2 days ago i was driveing daughter to school stalled middle road when it stalled it pop like a back fire tried to start it back up and it just spon over and over well i had it towed home a few hours later i went out it started right up but stalled again after a few min well now it starts and only runs for a few seconds ok help me

Sounds like it's not getting fuel. Check fuel pressure at the fuel rail. If low, make sure the pump is running. If the pump is running, but no pressure at the rail, check fuel, filter. Get back to us with result of these checks.

mcdevito75 Here, It"s possible the ignition Module is going bad, no way to test and if so, one day the car will not start at all.----------It can also be a vapor loc, wher the fuel is evaporating before it reaches the cylinders. Best Bet, have your local shop check both these items.

Hi ST.

Problems that occurr and disappear erratically are often caused by bad wiring.

In your case, if problem is stalling when idling and during startup, parts that are likely involved are those determining the balance of fuel/air mixture.

This kind of symptoms are commonly caused by weak wiring to MAP/MAF sensor (MAP on the 97 engine). This often results in error code stored.
If problem is only at cold, check IAT (idle air temp) sensor, also located in the air intake, check the idle air control valve.

Check crank sensor wiring harness. This is also common cause for the problem.

Check wiring to injectors and high voltage wires from distribution to spark plug. If any of these is the problem, then you will get a misfire code stored in ECM (main computer module).

If the car also drives very rough and is revving up and down in a weird way, check the EGR valve.

The fuel pump wiring may also be responsible. In that case you will get a lean mixture code if you do an error scan.

The two connectors to ECU must be tested, just in case. If instrument panel comes on and if there is no additional problem, this are hardly related to the problem.

If wiring is OK, check the vacuum system and try cranking with gas tank cap off. Vacuum system is tested using an hand tool gauge onvacuum lines while spraying card cleaner on the hoses (or heating them with a torch). If there is a leak, pressure will go up. A big leak will also do hissing noise, and will often result in a lean code when doing an OBD code scanning.

As first thing I would do a code scanning. This car is OBDII. The scan can be done for free at the nearest Autozone, or for a small fee at any garage.

If you get any OBDII code from the scan, report it here, so that we can isolate further the possible reason for the problem.

- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)When is the code detected?The P0322 code is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects no signal.P0322 VOLKSWAGEN DescriptionIgnition failure sensor is used to check whether the spark ignition is occurred correctly or not and also used to tachometer drive. The sensor monitors the voltage difference between a resistance which is on the battery circuit for ignition coil. When the ignition coil works properly, the electric current through the resistance is detected as voltage drop. This is confirmed for every ignition event with the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor. If ECM detects a malfunction, no ignition is possible, so the engine would not start. If there is no ignition signal for a predetermined cycle for one or two ignition coils, an ignition coil circuit failure exists.

You can't rule anything out yet. It could be a plug or injector among other things, but probably not low fuel pressure. If you have a code 300 and nothing else, you may have to wait until the problem gets bad enough to set additional codes. And if any of the sensors fail, such as the cam or crank sensors, you'll get a code for those to be tested.
Have the plugs been checked or replaced in the past 30,000 miles ?

This is a long shot but be sure the air filter is not clogged. Replace or at least take it out and knock it on the ground to release dirt

Ok replaced fuel pum on 2003 kea that was not the problem its still doing same thing

run the fault codes to find which sensors are faulty . Have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to check pump---regulator and filter.

Hi Donald, I had the same problem two years ago, I found it to be the sensor for the immobiliser that sit's around the ignition for the key.did you notice on the dash board at the time of trying to start it if the heater coil symbol and immobiliser lights on the dash were on at the same time with the coil light going out first and leaving the immobiliser light on,or only the heater, if the heater, then it's the sensor, remove the two half's of the shroud behind the steering wheel and look for two small wires that go to a small plastic connector make sure this is fully home and move the wire wires to a different position as this is what fixed mine and it's run for two years trouble free, I did leave the shrouds off for a week just in case, so if it did happen again I would move the wires again, but it never happened again. if that is you problem either get one of a scraper or pay big money for a new. this sensor is very easy to remove as it's fixed in place with one small screw.

Distributor sensor replaced but car started to shake

If the sensor is in the dist, the dist shaft could be worn and slowly damaging the new sensor.
Could also be a new problem.
