My 1994 saturn SC1 1.9l automatic - for several days it was very hard to start - turned over, acted like it wanted to start, and after flooding it, and killing the battery, charging the batt - it would eventually start. New battery, new plugs, new oil & filter, fuel lines are intact, vacuum seems good. Ugh! Now when i tried to start it, all i get when i turn the key is everything(radio, idiot lights on dash, fuel pump hums,) but there is no turning over of the motor. I heard sounds that sounded like the starter would stay engaged for a minute when i started it prior to this final "no action". Help! Please!!

It sounds like you need a starter and a CPS that sits behind the starter

SOURCE: 93 Saturn SL starting issue

Yea , I would say try changing out the starter ( which has a solenoid on it btw,) and that may be the cause of the whole issue, If you already changed out the alternator which I just discovered is a real chore in itself... try to change the starter out then .. looks like a similar task... where you have to go from the bottom ( underside ) of the car to get to it. Have fun Good Luck!

There's a relay that's under the dash. keep turning the key until you find what's clicking then replace that relay, the car should start.

SOURCE: 94 saturn 1.9L flooding out

i bet the coolant temp sensor is bad,,,when the sensor cracks coolant leaks into and wrecks it and then the coolant leaks thru the sensor and into the harness,,,and this causes the car to dump too much fuel because the computer is seeing a temp that is not real and therefore the air fuel mixture is off and flooding the car,,,typical issue, replace the coolant temp sensor and then harness,,like $75 for both at saturn,,do not by the aftermarket ones, yes the cost less but they are junk and will not work either,,,also i bet if you put the gas pedal to the floor or pump it when this happens i bet the car starts and smokes when it does,,,,saturn redsigned the sensor for this reason,it was plastic and they made it brass so now it can not crack and leak, the aftermarket ones are still plastic junk

I STAND CORRECTED, TO RICH AND TO ANSWER YOU YES IT ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL. ALSO ERROR LITE COMES ON

the temperature sensor often causes symptoms such as this. it incorrectly tells the computer that the engine is cold and needs a rich mixture which results in black smoke and hard starts. another cause for such a condition is fuel injectors that are dribbling rather than atomizing fuel spray.

Takes hour to start why

Try this-- The next time you start the car, hold the pedal down to the floor. If it starts, Then you have a flooding problem. hold it there for 30 seconds. Then while still holding the pedal to the floor, try to start the car. Hard to say on pc. If above does not work, see or call saturn dealer to see if anyone else is having the same problem. Good-Day!

Have a test done on the glo-plug system as it appears that they have burnt out and are not pre-heating the cylinders or providing a source of ignition for the atomised fuel from the injectors

Clutch doesn't want to disengage when the pedal is depressed. Oil level seems fine. Runs through the gears fine when the engine is off. I may mention here that it is a manual transmission. The problem...

It sounds like your hydraulics might have gone bad. They are no longer pressing the pressure plate hard enough in order to disengage the clutch disc from the flywheel.

If the pedal feels any different this may be an indication that the hydraulics are bad. Otherwise it could be the pressure plate fingers are worn enough where it won't have the spring pressure needed to push on the outer diaphragm to disengage the clutch.

Also there is no "oil" in a manual Saturn transmission, it is ATF, the same stuff you put in your automatic transmission.

1994 saturn sc won't start after driving couple of miles

the common problem on these cars is a bad coolant temp sensor when they start going bad they will read a cooler temperature for the computer than the actual temp some times it is a big difference.and the colder it reads the more gas will be supplied this will flood the car and you will smell gas.the part is cheap.about ten dollars
