Turns over but dont start let off key and sputters 3or4 times 1998 Vortec 350 Chevy Z71 4x4

I have a 96 Chevy 4x4 Z71 with the vortec 350. I just bought the truck and it had a leaky freeze plug. The truck ran but I had it towed home anyway. I replace the freeze plug, just drove it for the first time and it drives great, runs strong, everything is good including the running temp. I put fresh oil and filter and brand new antifreeze in it. When I opened the radiator cap to make sure the level was right, there was oil in the water (unlike the other guy you helped that had water in the oil). I am very perplexed. The new green antifreeze appears brown now and when I felt it, it is clear there is oil in it. I didn't drain the entire system when I changed the freeze plug, just added the antifreeze. But when I took the freeze plug out, the water that came out appeared pretty clear (can't say for sure, but I didn't think there was oil in it). Any help is appreciated. Thank you, Tony [email protected] turns over but does not start. when u let off key it sputters like maybe 3or4 times 1998 chevy Z 71 5.7 350 vortec

The freeze plug you replaced was due to rust or was it pushed out by freezing temperature? These plugs are not designed to protect the engine block from cracking during freezing temperatures, they are there to remove the sand from the block after casting it. I would drain your system completely and flush out the radiator thouroughly and fill with plain water, then run the engine and see if oil gets in the water, if it does and the plug was out due to freeze, then your block is probably cracked, although you could just have a head gasket leak. Oil pressure (40psi) is higher then water pressure (17psi), so getting oil in the water is always more prominent than the other way around. Flush out the system and let me know if oil returns to the water, hope this helps

I am swaping out 1990 4.3 chhevy sport and putting i a 1995 350 chevy

The 1995 350 is a "Vortec 5.7" motor if I remember correctly. You will have to get a throttle body and intake manifold for an older 5.7 liter(early 90's?).The Vortec engines are a sequential multiport injection setup(totally different).

Vortec 350 knock on start-up.

Is it a ping or a knock? It could be the initial timing is not set correctly. Are you losing coolant? It could be a leaking head gasket and is leaking a small amount of anti-freeze into one of the cylinders. If it is a bearing it will get worse and worse, is the oil pressure good? I guess I'd take it back to the rebuilder.

Engine swap 5.0 vortec to 350 non computer controled

The computer runs the Transmission from the signals the throttle position sensor, crank shaft sensor, and cam shaft sensor. Your going to have to replace the transmission with an older transmission like the turbo 350 or turbo 400. When it's time to get the car e-tested, that's when your going to run in to problems, due to the year your Chevy is. If your Chevy was a 1985 then you could go with the carb system but with being the newer OBD11 system, your going to have an off road only vehicle with that swap. Why would you want to replace the engine with the 350 carb set up??? There are things you can do to tweak the one in your Chevy free of charge.

I need the torque specs and sequence on a 1998 chevy 350 vortec

Vortecs are a little different that old school small blocks, grab a Haynes or Chiltons, the cross patterns and specs are simply diagramed. Vortec, as any really, start with 25# then 45# and then final torque which I believe is around 70-75# but to be sure verify with the manual. AutoZones, Murry's, Adavance auto all carry the books, Cheap insurance.
