SOURCE: how to reset fuel shut off switch in trunk of a 1997 lincoln ctnl

just press the button to reset it. Per your owner manual. Should only trip in an accident.

WHen you turn on the key, can you hear the fuel pump run for 5 seconds. The pump is in the fuel tank. listen there while someone turns the key on. report back.

SOURCE: 1998 lincoln continental idles very rough

Has your engine gotten wet? Sounds like water around your spark plug boots down in the port around the spark plugs. If there is any water down there, make sure you blow it out with air compressor prior to removing plugs, or it will drain directly into the engine. Another scenario, could be EGR valve or related parts.  Is your check engine light on? With that rough of a ride, it should be. If it is an auto parts store should be able to read the code to help pin point the problem. Good Luck!

SOURCE: 4.6 liter, 97 Continental, 177,000 miles Engine miss

My 1998 Continental started missing. Problem was very slightly leaking valve cover gasket that allowed a little oil to drip on plug/plug wires. The oil would 'burn off' and not be evident on the driveway. It left carbon tracks that would short out and keep a plug from sparking.the cylindars.

2000 lincoln continental looses power is steep hills and a few days later it stalled out like it's not getting gas has full tank ..need help

Most likely, you have a clogged fuel filter. Start there.
If replacing the fuel filter does not solve the issue, test for proper pressure at the fuel rail, and replace the fuel pressure regulator and/or the fuel pump, as indicated. Also, check the fuel intake strainer to be sure it hasn't become clogged with debris and, if it has, replace ALL FUEL in the vehicle.
I would recommend avoiding ethanol blend fuel for your vehicle, as it is not designed to use it (causes issues).

Where is the fuel pump located on my 2002 continental?

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank. You need to drain the fuel and pull the tank out from the car. Your fuel pump will look like this, the top is part of the fuel tank. mcneb_49.jpg

Car sit for 5 years only moved down drive way and back a few times during those years. When we got it there was a lot of sludge and filth in the fuel take. We replaced the fuel pump and cleaned the tank...

You need to start with a fuel pressure gauge on the car while driving and see if the pressure is droping, you could have clogged injectors if the fuel system was the bad, please rate

My 2001 Lincoln Continental has been sitting for over two years, It did start for about a minute but it wont start again. what can I do

BATTERY DEAD MORE LIKELY.CAR BEEN SITTING FOR 2 YEARS GAS IN FUEL TANK WEAK FULL OF WATER, YOU NEED TO REMOVE DRAIN OUT OLD FUEL IN THE FUEL TANK. YOU NEED ADD NEW FUEL IN FUEL TANK,CHANGE FUEL FILTER, IF CAR BEEN SITTING FOR TWO YEARS.I WOULD REMOVE SPARK PLUGS ONE AT A TIME REMOVE EACH SPARK PLUG SQUIRT FEW DROPS OF OIL INTO CYLINDER THEN REINSTALL SPARK PLUG, REASON I SAY TO DO THIS PROCEDURE IT HELP PISTON RINGS SEAL UP ENOUGH TO BUILD UP COMPRESSION SO YOU CAN START THE ENGINE WHERE IT BEEN SITTING TOO LONG.YOU NEED CHANGE ANTIFREEZE AND THERMOSTAT.REPLACE RADIATOR HOSES TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE,REPLACE AIR FILTER.

Car just won't start parked on a hill

facing up hill or downhill?

Does it do with with a full tank or just below 1/4 tank?

could be the pick-up on the fuel pump is loose or off the fuel pump in the tank.

need more info.

Maybe try turning key to on and listen for the pump to run in the fuel tank for 5 seconds.
Then cycle the key off for 15 seconds and turn key on again and let fuel pump charge fuel system to 40 psi. See if it starts then.

93 lincoln Continental singature series keeps stopping

May be the fuel pump relay. I had this problem with my 83 Grand Marquis. Look on the drivers side fender wall and look for 2 square relays side by side. They run about $25-35 each at Ford. I was told that they should both be replaced at the same time. One controls the electronic ignition and the other is the fuel pump relay. Hope this helps. As far as the fuel tank always reading full, I would think it is the float in the fuel tank or you have a loose wire.

2002 lincoln continental when filling gas tank the pump constantly shuts off

This is usually caused by the vent tube on the fuel filler pipe being restricted in someway. If you look under the vehicle at the fuel filler pipe you will see a smaller pipe running down beside it.This is the vent.Make sure that it is not bent or stopped up.
