The oil filter is in an aluminum cylinder on the engine. It is not a "spin on" filter, it is now a cartridge-type filter. Your Avalon uses 5-30 oil, 6qt with filter. Trans is Toyota's WS(world standard) ATF(there is no dipstick) There are no grease fittings on the car.
All the maintenance schedules are listed in the owners manual per mileage.

I would suggest to you to have the spiral cable (or 'clockspring') replaced. This is the electrical unit that transfers power to the air bag, the horn and the cruise control.
It is located right under the seering wheel.
Your description of the issue indicates to me that your spiral cable is loose, and making intermittant contact. If the vehicle had an air-bag deployment, this cable-device should have been changed.

This could be as simple as taking it down to the dealer and asking them to reprogramme the remote under the factory warranty. Before you do this however, please check to make sure the battery in the remote is not loose between the contacts, if they are tight on the battery, then a $5 battery replacement may solve the issue. Should be a paper insert filter. Should be a black plastic screw on cap that you must remove to expose the filter.
