My 1989 toyota corolla gives me trouble starting in the morning. I cannot start it without using choke. Even when choke is on, it gives jerks for some time before running smoothly. Any solution?

First of all change the fuel filter. If that doesn't get it, change the spark plugs. If that doesn't help, check for vacuum leaks. Check all intake bolts for tightness. With the engine running, use a stethoscope, or a length of fuel line held to your ear and listen for a hissing sound. Wiggle all your hoses around and check for loose ones or cracked ones.

Hello I have a toyota corolla when it's cool it's starts fine I can drive about 4or5 mi go in store and come out and won't start until it cools off 3 or 4 hours later

It sounds like a automatic choke problem, thermastac all to do with it , when a auto choke comes on and don't go off you normally get smoke from the exhaust and drinks a lot of fuel , but a good cheap tip go to your local kwik fit garage on a Saturday morning and ask a fitter if thay can look at it for you for a drink ie a few £ in cash good luck colin

In cold weather, my car is slow to start and has stalled a few times. What should I check?

You don't say what make of car but it's about the same for all. Your problem is the choke adjustment. The choke raises the idle when the car is cold and after warm up drops to normal. You are doing the chokes job when you hold the pedal down, once its warmed up the choke no longer functions till cold again. So check the choke and the high idle speed adjustment. Simple fix. Hope this helps mike

Hi
This sounds like a cold start system fault, which is a number of things.
  1. Cold start temperature sensor not operating correctly so the cold start system won't work when the engine is cold.
  2. The idle needs to be set to the correct RPM of the engine when warm, if it is idling ok when it is warm then this wont be the problem.
  3. Spark Plugs are worn and need replacing.
Most case's its the cold start system not operating correctly and if you have a good workshop to take it too they should pick this up quite quickly. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

If it starts fine when warm but not when cold it sounds like the choke is not coming on , Get who ever repaired the carb to fix the problem as they have not done what you paid them for.
