Tranny pops into neutral if i push on gas pedal hard

The sound you hear, is it a whining, popping, grinding, scraping or rattling sound?
If you drive a manual transmission vehicle and notice a grinding noise, it can indicate the clutch gear is no longer disengaging correctly.

You need to have someone or two to push the car to get the pressure off. If you are facing downhill have them push the front end, if uphill push the back. Release parking brake first because that will keep it from moving. After pushing a few inches you should be released and can shift but be carefull you don't run anyone over (go for neutral with foot on brake) Hope this helps.

Checked the clutch fluid level in the slave cylinder?

If tranny is manual shift you may have a bearing and or bad gear. Try changing tranny fluid. Check manual for correct fluid may use tranny fluid rather than gear oil. I recommend using Royal Purple fluid or gear oil. This very expensive but will slicken up the shifting and extend bearing and gear life.

the gears are sticking? is the shifter just really tight and hard to move from one gear to the next, or even just wiggle around in neutral? if so, you may need new bushings for it. which are not very expensive. IF the shifter wiggles around easily in neutral, but hangs in a gear when you press the clutch in all the way, you could need a clutch, OR hopefully you can just try bleeding the clutch line. at the master cylinder on the transmission. the breaks.... do you have to push the pedal down really hard, or really soft and far? if you're putting a lot of pressure on the pedal but you don't have to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor, that would indicate to me that your pads and rotors are glazed over. you should replace the rotors, pads and have the calipers checked, and have the brakes bled. if you've got to push the pedal all the way to the floor, there's a good chance all you'll need is to have the brakes bled.

The simplest thing to check would be check around your gas pedal. What you're looking for is carpet binding or impeding the pedal travel in some manner. I know, it's simple, but it's also the most common.

Secondly, follow the cable coming from the pedal and see it's binding in any way. It'll eventually pass through the firewall under the dash.

If still no luck, then pop the hood and check your cable coming through the firewall. Again you're looking for binding, or it rubbing against something.

If still no luck, check where the throttle cable attaches to the throttle body. It'll actually be what moves the throttle linkage. Have someone push the gas pedal and you see it. You'll probably have a cable coming from the transmission as well going to the same spot. That is, if it's an automatic...can't tell by description. A stick shift won't have a tranny cable.

If you cannot find any binding, then disconnect those cables one by one (easy to do..just carefully pry off the attached piece and then squeeze the large part where it passes through the holding bracket) and squirt a little lubricating oil like Liquid Wrench down each one. Try moving it back and forth and that should free it up.

Definately look at this soon. You do not want that pedal sticking! If it does, immediately shift to neutral and kill the engine. The brakes may not hold it if you leave it in gear. I had a Suburban do this once...and that was one scary ride!! I was only 16 too.

Hopefully this helps. If you do all this you should discover your culprit.

When you press on, or let off the gas pedal, the gearshift jumps into the neutral position, leaving the transmission out of gear. This problem becomes more frequent over time. This may mean that the shift linkage needs to be adjusted, or that there is an internal problem in the transmission.
