Key won't unlock driver door

When attempting to unlock the driver door, the key won't unlock the door or even turn in the correct direction. I can however, lock the door with the key. I'm experiencing this problem with both the original key and a spare key that I made recently.

The linkage may be blocked by something in its path of travel, unlock direction only. To be sure it isn't just tumbler travel, spray liberal amount of graphite lock lube into key socket and 'play' the key back and forth without force to work it loose.

SOURCE: My Spare Key Won't Start My Car

ok well here's the thing. This key has not been used before. The keys are cut to the specs of the ignition so they may be undercut so to speak. I know on my car i can turn it upside down it will work. But on the other hand it could just possibly be a back up for when you lock your keys in your car (not likely but it's still possible). You can keep putting your key in and out a bunch of times and **** the steering wheel back and forth as you turn the key to get it used to the ignition switch. See if that works and if not i will see what i can come up with in the meantime for this exact car.

How do I turn off anti theft on 1996 Lincoln mark liV

try this

Method 1 of 3: Check your key and cylinder

Step 1: Check your key fob battery. A car's anti-theft system may activate if your key fob battery is dead and hasn't disabled the system.
Make sure the battery is installed correctly in your key fob. If the battery is correctly installed, replace it with a fresh battery and try again.
Step 2: Check your door lock cylinder. If your car has been damaged in an attempt to steal it or break into it, the anti-theft system may have been engaged.
Check for damage to the lock cylinder itself or under the door handle where would-be thieves may have punched through with a screwdriver. If the lock is damaged, try using the passenger side cylinder if your car has one.
  • Note: While the driver's side door lock is damaged, typically the passenger side won't also be.
Step 3: Check that you are using the proper key to start your car. Many cars have a "valet" key or a door key that only performs certain functions such as unlocking the doors.
"Valet" keys are often distinguished by a "V" on the key shaft or a different-colored key head. The key you are using may not have the chip required to start your car.

Method 2 of 3: Turn the ignition on

If the anti-theft system has locked up your engine, you won't be able to start it. You'll have to disable it with these steps.
Step 1: Check for the anti-theft light. It's located on your dash and will have a blue or red light.
Step 2: Turn the ignition to the "on" position. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position, which activates your accessories but not the engine.
Leave the key in position for about 10 - 15 minutes.
Step 3: Check the anti-theft light again. If it's no longer blinking, turn the key back to the Off position and allow it to set for a minute or two.
This gives the system time to reset or you won't be able to start your car.
Step 4: Start the engine. Attempt to start your engine.
If it still won't start, check to make sure the battery hasn't been drained.
Step 5: Repeat the process. Try the process over again to see if it will work.

Method 3 of 3: Use the key in your car door

Step 1: Insert your key in the lock on the door. Use the driver's side door and the physical key even if your vehicle is equipped with a keyless entry system.
Step 2: Turn the key. Turn the key to unlock your car door, but don't release it.
Hold the key in this position for 20 to 30 seconds. This lets the system know you have the correct key, and it can allow you to bypass the alarm system. Some vehicles recognize the key simply by turning the key back and forth in the door lock key cylinder.
  • Tip: Try turning the key both ways fully to disable the anti-theft system.
Step 3: Try to start the engine. Remove the key and try to start the engine.
Be sure to leave the key cylinder in the unlocked position.
An anti-theft system that prevents your car from running properly is a nuisance, and while you may be thankful for it in the event of a crime, it is now causing you a great deal of inconvenience, which these steps have hopefully helped you resolve. If your car still won't start, you should consult with a professional from YourMechanic to determine if there is another issue that is preventing your car from starting.

How to get into programming mode to program a remote?

Few Toyota models came equipped with remote door locks before 2008 - surprisingly!

Your car may not have the radio receiver to work with door locks. In that case, you need the radio and some wireing to pair with your remotes.

Hey I need urgent help... My 1986 Tpyota Supra's

When you put the key in the door lock cylinder does the key turn freely in both directions on both doors (you should feel some restriction in one or the other direction). On the inside of the car can you manually unlock and if it doesn't does the lever still seem to move like it should. Or are we talking just the power switch.

Manual door locks won't unlock

I recommend pulling the door panel off and getting a better look. There are little nylon retainers that slip over the metal rods in the door which connect the door handles, locks, latches etc (usually on the ends of the rods). Quick guess is that the end of the rod is sliding in there but because its still clipped onto the rod, it appears to be all there, in its proper place and working correctly. I'm also guessing that there has been a lot of penetrating oil sprayed into the door in an attempt to free the tight lock mechanisms. In reality, allowing the broken parts to slide into a stuck position more easily. Pop the door pnl off, start wiggling and moving different parts of the lock, latch, handles etc... You may want to ask your wife to help turn the door lock key outside while you're watching things move inside. I'll bet the issue(s) become very clear in no time! Good luck!

Anti theft light won't go out

There are 2 things to try:
1) Use your key to manually unlock the driver's side door - sometimes this alone is enough to reset your security system.
2) Put your key in the ignition and turn to ON position (do not try to start the car, just turn to ON)- after 30 seconds, attempt to start the car and see if the security light goes out.

I CAN NOT OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR PASAGER DOOR AND REAR DOOR BY KEY

If I understand you correctly your saying that the only door on your van that you can unlock with a key or remote is the sliding side door and that all the other doors will not unlock with the key or the remote? If this is the case then the two front doors most likely have a problem with the fuse to the actuators so you should check the fuse in the fuse box which may be located either under the drivers dash or in the engine compartment on the drivers side over the wheel well.
