Air conditioning belt

My belt broke i need to replace it but can not adjust pulley can you suggest how to do this Same thing - We got the right belt as specified but it just really seems too small - there seem to be 3 different belts on this 2000 kia sportage - no serpentine - and it is strange that the old belt would fit where the adjuster pulley was set at but even when the adjuster is moved to the highest point we can't get it on! :(

SOURCE: timing belt broke on 1998 kia sportage, need the correct points

Hi, Just to clarify and clear things up, the motor used in the 1998 to 2002 Kia Sportage is actually the Mazda FE3 engine and it is a NON-INTERFERENCE engine.

For any an all repair information on any Kia vehicle produced you can access the KGIS system (Kia Global Information System), just go to www.kiatechinfo.com and create and account (its completely FREE). After you do this you will have access to all the Kia Shop Manuals, DTC Manuals, Recall information for your vehicle and more.

I just had the same problem with my Sportage and found all the information that I needed through KGIS. Hope this helps and good luck on fixing your Sportage.

How do I locate the tensioner for the alternator belt on a 2003 kia spectra?

I wondered the same thing and looked for days on end. To my surprise, there is no tension pulley for the 2003 Kia Spectra. The Kia 4 cyl has two (2) belts. The outside belt services the power steering and air conditioning. The inside belt (the one you want to service) services the alternator and water pump. The alternator tension is set by two (2) adjustment screws located on the alternator. One screw is used as a locking bolt and the upper bolt is used as the adjuster. You must first loosen the locking bolt which is located between the belt and the alternator housing. Loosen about 6 to 8 travels of the wrench (size 13mm), then tighten the upper bolt until you have no more than 1/2 inch of movement in the belt when you press down. After the correct tension is achieved, tighten the locking bolt and your done. As long as you're down there, you might as well check the outer belt as well. Same principle, one locking and one adjuster. Good Luck, Fred

Locating tdc on ford ranger 2001 2.5 4cyl

Here are the instructions to replace the belt which are ones the same as the 2.3 earlier engine.
Getting Started
  • Remove the radiator shroud and loosen the water pump pulley bolts. Remove the accessory drive belts. Remove the water pump pulley bolts. Remove the water pump pulley and the radiator cooling fan. Drain and recover the Freon from the air-conditioning system. Remove the air-conditioning compressor.
Remove the power steering pump but leave the lines attached and move aside. Remove the air conditioning bracket. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and the pulley using the wheel puller. Remove the timing belt cover.
Align Crankshaft and Block
  • Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the keyway on the crankshaft sprocket is straight up and the dot to the right side of it is lined up with the corresponding mark on the block. Check that the triangle mark on the camshaft sprocket lines up with the same type mark on the block at the 5 o'clock position. If not then turn the crankshaft one more time and it will align.
Loosen Tensioner
  • Loosen the large bolt on the top of the tensioner and then loosen the bolt closest to the tensioner pulley. Use the special ford tool and turn the tensioner clockwise to take the tension off of the timing belt and tighten the adjusting bolt lightly to hold it out of your way. Remove the timing belt.
Work Counterclockwise
  • Install the new timing belt starting on the right side and work counterclockwise. The circle on the crankshaft sprocket and the diamond marks on the oil pump and the triangle marks on the camshaft sprocket should always stay lined up. Loosen the adjuster bolt on the tensioner and rotate the engine two turns clockwise and realign the timing marks. Tighten the tensioner-adjusting bolt next to the tensioner pulley and then pivot bolt. Install the rest of the components in the reverse order that they were removed and tighten the crankshaft bolt to 121 foot-pounds of torque.

Timing chain is loose how do I replace or tighten

You need to pull out the timing cover. 4-6 hours of work. Here is the step to remove the Cover, then you need to remove the Sprockets.
moz-screenshot.pngmoz-screenshot-1.png
  1. Remove the oil pan.
  2. Remove the power steering belt if so equipped.
  3. Remove the air conditioning belt, compressor and bracket if so equipped.
  4. Remove the fan clutch (fluid coupling), with the fan and water pump pulley.
  5. Matchmark and remove the crankshaft pulley(s). This bolt will be very tight. Use the counter-holding bar, properly installed, to hold the crankshaft while loosening the bolt. Use the pulley extractor or gear puller to remove the pulley from the shaft.
  6. Remove the water bypass pipe.
  7. Remove the fan belt adjusting bar. If necessary, remove the lower power steering bracket for access.
  8. Disconnect the heater water outlet pipe.
  9. Unbolt the timing chain cover assembly. Be careful to loosen only the correct bolts.

To install:
  1. Install new gaskets over the dowels on the timing chain cover. Slide the cover assembly over the dowels and pump spline. Insert the retaining bolts and tighten them. Tighten the 8mm bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm) and the 10mm bolts to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  2. Temporarily install the adjusting bar to the alternator. Install the adjusting bar to the chain cover and tighten the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  3. Install the heater water outlet pipe.
  4. Install the water bypass pipe.
  5. Install the crankshaft pulley and bolt. Use the counter-holding tool to hold the pulley and tighten the bolt to 116 ft. lbs. (157 Nm). If equipped with air conditioning, install the second crankshaft pulley.
  6. Install the water pump pulley and fluid coupling with the fan.
  7. Adjust the tension on the drive belts.
  8. Install the air conditioning compressor bracket, compressor and belt if they were removed.
  9. Install the power steering belt and adjust it.
  10. Attach the oil pan.
  11. Install the radiator.
