Release retracted seatbelt

Have a 1999 Volvo v70 the seat belts in back seat are all retracted and locked. I just purchased this vehicle to use at my vacation home its in great shape and I did not notice this problem til I had the car a few days. it looked like to me someone fastened the belts when seats were laid down then when the put them into upright position it put them in a lot of stress ( the were so tight they broke the plastic pieces. I have tried to take the seats apart but can not get to the zipper don't kn ow how to get the floor up directly behind the seats

You have to unbolt it on the bottom; it is one bolt holding it on the bottom underneath the seat. Once you get it released, it should be fine. You will have to remember to pull some slack out and tie a knot in the belt whenever you fold the seats down.

SOURCE: Volvo V70 rear seatbelt jammed

you can remove the bolt that holds the seatbelt to the floor by pulling off the seatpad where the belt goes to the floor and then raise the seat and the belt should reset. this happens on my passenger side rear seat.

SOURCE: When putting the back seat upright from a fold

MIGHT HAVE TO REMOVE THE SEAT BELT TO HELP RELEASE THE TENSION AND RECONNECT IT BACK.

SOURCE: rear seat down and wont go back up; locked middle belt

middle seat belt shouldn't have anything to do with it. The seat locks down for stowage in the rear cargo area. you can pull the release handle on the back of the seat to release it back into the up position.

Release retracted seatbelt

The safety belts are sensible to release speed (u have to release it kinda smooth). Also they are sensibile to car inclination (lean) may not release whel when rise/fall position. If locked,u may have to shake a little the belt so the locking spring/balls to unlock.Eventualy ,when driving it can release by itself. One thing is for shure:no sudden moves:it locks again (as in the impact scenario)Cheers

Rear passengerside seat belt stuck in retracted position, cannot raise rear seat to upright position. how do I fix it?

You will most likely need to replace the seatbelt retractor. The best place to find a replacement is usually your local self service auto salvage lot. I replaced mine last year and it ran me $10 for the retractor and u pull and pay.

My rear seat belts have locked with the seat in the down position

I had the same problem. I unscrewed the seat belt from the floor board. That eased the tention and the belts released.

Driver side seat belt is fully retracted and will not release.

Try giving it a solid tap with something hard (screw driver handle) while jiggling the seatbelt.

1998 Subaru Outback right rear seatbelt stuck.

you need to pull the belt out all the way to release it ,they have a locking mechanism for baby seats that stops them retracting, you pull them all the way out and they are reset and retract, common in modern cars, rare to give trouble

Volvo V70 rear seatbelt jammed

i know this sounds rough, but pull the seat belt with both hands as hard as you can, this will more than likely free the seat belt, some of the seat belt may have jammed in the gear inside the roller box.......

Rear seat tumbled forward for more room in back and seat belt jamed. now back seat can not go back into position.

To fix that scenario, I have to get to the bolts anchoring the seat belt which can be found under the rear seat. Which a socket wrench, remove the bolt freeing the seatbelt to allow you room to release the lock to pull the belt out from the top of the back seat. You may now push the back seat into its upright position and then refasten the seatbelts with the bolt to it's former position under the back seat.

When I in later times need to lower the back seat, I will either loop the seatbelt around the head rest or tie two belts together allowing for slack in case the belt tightens again when trying to move the seat back to its original position.

.....Very frustrating!!!
