Check all your battery connections. Maybe not a good connection since your key doesn't turn on warning lights and gauges. See if your headlights work to verify a good battery connection.
Any chance you blew fuses? Like a maxi fuse for the ignition switch? Or for older vehicles that used a fusible link to connect battery power with the ignition switch. Keep diagnosing until you get power to the ignition switch (warning lights and gauges working with key ON).
Any chance your battery is totally discharged? Was the alternator working good when tested? If alternator quits working, engine and all electricals will run off the battery for a time until it is totally depleted, then will stall and won't have enough juice to even turn any lights on. Check battery voltage with a multi meter or voltmeter. A good, fully charged battery will show 12.6 volts. If under 12 volts, it may or may not have enough juice to start, but lights will still work some, though maybe very dim. .

SOURCE: car will not start

It is most likely your alternator, Your alternator is responsible for charging your battery, Which if your battery is fine, is the likely cause of your issue, HOWEVER, Be sure to check your battery cables for damage, Make sure the clamps are tightly connected to your battery, If they have corrosion (White fluffy stuff) on them, Take them off and clean them (BLACK (Negative) First, Then take the RED (Positive) off and clean that too, Then put them back on in the reverse order.) with a stiff wire brush, Also be sure to clean the terminals on the battery.

SOURCE: 2002 Chevy s10 electrical problems

Not to well versed on the S-10 electrical system but I would take a look at the voltage regulator.
It sounds like there is a malfunction that charges your battery sometimes but shorts out the alternator other times. Try having it tested or replace it
WD-40 will not do the trick for cleaning your terminals. WD-40 was developed during the 2nd WW to combat moisture in radio equipment in the South Pacific. WD stands for water displacement and the 40 is for formula #40. To clean the terminals you must disconnect them and use an abrasive such as emery cloth to remove the corrosion. They should be brite and shiny when you put them back together. I always cote mine wit dei-electric grease before re-assembly

Hello, the idle speed is controlled by the computer, there is no adjustment, what you can do is to clean the inside of the throttle body:

Remove the intake hose from the T/Body, disconnect the battery, use a can of air intake/throttle body cleaner and a brush, open the throttle all the way and clean the carbon out, put the hose back and reconnect the battery, start the engine and keep the rpm up until it clears out, drive it for about 15 minutes, about 90% of the time this fixes low idle.

Ford Five Hundred stalls when idle or slowing down

Hello -- wOw! OK - part answer, some vehicles are designed to never be "out of electricity" so when you remove the battery, the computer goes ballistic, e.g. with the newer volkswagons if the battery is removed and the computer not reset -- it will blow the transmission..,..

I'd really like to know what the part the controls the air flow is called.
(if it is an idle air control valve = I.A.C.) - then yeah, they are trying to ****** you -- to pay their montly mortgage? - I'd also steer clear of that clown in the future - AND be sure to tell all your friends and family too!).

Have you contacted your local parts store to see what the part actually costs?

What year is this vehicle?

Is the condition happening at start up when vehicle is cold/ not full operating temperature or after hot and had been running a while?

what about the air filter - have you inspected for blockage?

Also, you seem to be a smart person -- who added a lot of details (THANK YOU!) -- So I am going to also recommend that you put down a fast $20 at your local auto parts store to grab either a haynes or chiltons repair manual for your year make model vehicle, you will find more trouble shooting roblems & solutions there and will be a valuable reference. If you do not want to toss out a $20 or so, try your local library, they may have a copy there or at another branch which you could check out for free -- either way, CALL AHEAD to check on the availability
Please provide feedback
Best regards

When in gear and a/c is turned on, wants to stall

run the fault codes and check for problem idle control sensor
500 rpms are too slow for idle should be around 850 for automatic
also have the voltage regulator /alternator checked as the problem is not enough voltage ti run the car and the ac because the available voltage isn't high enough

I had the car in storage for 35 days. Upon startup, battery was dead. I took the dead battery out(only 1 year old) and put in a good battery which started the car, while the car was running good I took out...

You recycle the old dead battery

Have no idea why you even put that back in

Common sense & your friend is correct

You don't disconnect anything on today's
vehicles, even with the key on

Put in a new battery, start the car, warm it up
& drive it for awhile & maybe you will get lucky
& it will complete some of the drive cycles & run some
monitors ,you know nothing about & it will be fine

If not, your mechanic friend should be about to stop
by with the bosses scan tool & help you out

The truck stays on as long as i'm driving but whn i come to a stop or slow down it dies and i have to restart it. I thought maybe the alternator, would that be right? Also the lights start on the dash fade...

My truck is manual and is idling rough at low rpms, it kinda surges and rpm starts to drop like between 500 and 900 rpm as well.

I have trouble starting it and stalls on me.

I have changed the alternator, starter, battery, battery cables, rotor, distributor cap, spark plug wires, spark plugs.

As for the dash light going out, mine does that too but on the left side (gas gauge side), I just usually apply a firm tap on the left side of the black part of the panel and it turns on.
