Check battery. Dead battery is the first thing to check for. Headlights come on full brightness? Try jumping it?
If shifter won't move, what is it stuck in? If auto, stuck in "park" may simply be that the parking brake is holding tension against the parking gear's workings. If stick, similar, but pressing clutch should clear.
The two most common reasons for the shifter not moving out of park are, a problem with the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid. Or you may be on a steep hill and have too much pressure on the park gear. You may be able to turn the key switch to the unlock position and take the transmission out of park before you turn the key to the on position.

if the shifter is still firm in its location, the neutral safety switch is located on the left side of the transmission. you can loosen it and relalign it to read the correct gear.
