It's located by oil filter, may have to remove filter to remove switch, may need a stubby(short) wrench to remove, may be able to turn tiresout to get to,it's a tight fit.Remove electrical connector, then get wrench and remove, then take to Autozone and match up with new one, here it is. I just changed out a tailight on my 2000 Nissan Xterra, so I assume it may be similar. You have to pop the plastic strip which runs across the back. There are pop rivits in it.

thode screws hold the lens or the light assembly? Allow for the whole tail light to come out and the bulb plug will be accessible. I never had the privilage. But how the lens fits will tell you. If the lens goes overthe edges, the whole unit comes out, lens is sealed. Good luck

Changed distributor in 2001 nissan xterra now oil light flickers

Sounds like you may have accidentally pulled the wire loose on the oil pressure switch. Just check it to see if it's tight and not broken or stretched..Always try easiest fix first..

High oil pressure

First thing is find out if the oi pressure is really high. Remove the oil pressure sending unit and hook up a oil pressure test gauge kit, if the pressure is within normal then replace the sending unit first. (requires a special socket)

Why my 2006 xterra oil gauge is all the way up on H? engine sounds good and it drive good....

You will probable need an oil sending switch very cheap part. So I would try that frist. If you start the truck up cold or hot and it goes right up to H. that is what I would do frist.

inner timing cover oil gallery gaskets are more than likely your problem...you can make your own for 10 dollars or give nissan 500 for a new cover as they dont supply the gaskets....check the oil pan for gasket material...thats a sure sign they blew out but they may be gone and still holding together so its not always accurate...

The oil pressure light on my 2004 nissan xterra stays

if the switch has been repaced then u most likely really have an oil pressure problem, you will neded to hook up a test mechanical oil pressure guage and verify the actual pressure, I suspect you will end up replacing the oil pump, the inlet screen may be clogged with dirt or the pump is worn out or has a stuck pressure regualtor valve.
