. Assembling a vehicle the body is lowered down over the engine so if you have the correct equipment say a hoist where the engine / gear box unit can be lowered as you raise the body then I would take it out the bottom. you place the engine assembly on suitable stands and simply raise the hoist/ body up off the engine.

I have pulled them out the top and have dropped complete with transmission out the bottom. There not to bad to swap once you get into it.

CAN ENGINE IN 98 RAV 4 BE REMOVED OUT THE TOP?

top- buy removing the 4 motor/ tranny mounts
bottom - buy droping it with the sub frame.
either way you need to remove the shift linkige. (and wiring)

Hi Bft,Your easiest and most efficient way is through the top. Remember to dismantle the suspension and half shafts first. Once you've removed the CV joints don't move the vehicle as the front wheel bearings are held in place by the CV's. Regards Johngee10

Changing a motor in 98 bonneville

The factory procedure is to remove from the top. You need to remove the inner fender to remove harmonic balancer. Tight quarters for this job. Some garages have told me that remove these from the bottom, preference I guess but I prefer the to use the factory procedure barring a time-saving shortcut.

What is wrong with the current engine? If it is seized get back to me.
