Could be the solenoid on the motor best just to change the motor. as to fix motor you need to take it to bits.... and its not easy to do.

SOURCE: Engine cranks, but does not start

My suggestion to this is to check the basics. Check fuel pressure and check spark during crank. There is no quick answer for a no start condition. You always have to start by checking the basics. An engine with no spark or fuel will not start every time.

SOURCE: Starting - no crank -

Try a different key, the chip in the key is probably bad creating the vehicle not to crank as the exciter ring cannot pick up a signal from the master key.

'03 Nissan Altima 2.5 That noise the car makes when u forget the car is running and u try to crank it is the noise my car makes everytime I try to crank it. Car isn't starting. How do I fix this problem?...

Hi, you just simply need to remove the starter and observe the fly wheel if the teeth are fine, if yes upen the starter and change the Bendix if the teeth of the Bendix are still good. An the Bendix is the part that meet with flywheel to turn the engine .

1992 subaru legacy starter wont engage fully and makes a loud grinding noise

Sounds like it is not toughing 100% and making full gear contact with the fly-wheel. Replace starter or the misalignment can burr the flywheel causing rounding and subsequent damage to the device.

My stater is free, spinning thn grindingmon the stop but it doesnt do it all the ti,me but is slowly getting worste its a 2001 z3 roadster 3.0im i replaced the crank positioning sensor but did nothing...

replace the starter and the flywheel-the bad starter has not engaged the teeth on the flywheel fully and has ground some teeth off so you'll fit that space every once in a while-cheers Denny

2000 olds alero cranks then makes a metal grinding sound and won't start

You need to have your flywheel: replaced.Your starter motor engages against the fly wheel at the back of the motor. Every time your motor stops it tends to be in the same few positions (just the way things work) so there is more stress on some parts of your fly wheel than others. Because of this the teeth wear out on the fly wheel which means the starter can correctly engage on the fly wheel which is the grinding noise.

Grinds when the car has been stalled for a bit and then started. Sounds like a metal scraping noise. Also when decelerating or reaching a stop it whines and towards the end if broken abruptly it does

The grinding noise when you are braking is worn out pads. Metal against metal is not good for your discs - replace the pads otherwise your up for machining of the discs or replacing. That noise on start-up is common with worn teeth on the fly wheel. The fly wheel will stop in "common" positions just how the momentum of the motor works and the teeth can wear out at these spots - sounds horrid but is not "unsafe" problem is one day you may not be able to start the car if the starter cannot engage the fly wheel to turn the motor over. This is where you hear of people turning the motor over a little by hand (they usually remove the stone plate from below the fly wheel to hand crank the engine) I don't recommend this practice probably better to price a replacement and while it is apart consider any other work eg. Clutch or minor seal leaks as it is not a small job to replace the flywheel.

Where is the starting motor in Nissan xterra2000?

the starter on most vehicles is bolted to the bell housing of the gearbox, thats the bit that covers the fly wheel, when the starter spins it shoots out and turns the fly wheel , (cranking the engine)
start by finding the bell housing, also the starter has a direct feed from your battery try following the cables back , remember to disconnect the terminals first , dont want any electric shocks !! hope this helps

Sierra 1500 wont turn over 350. locked up???

Have the battery tested for a dead cell. It may test at 12 volts but that doesn't mean there isn't a dead cell. Also, if the motor has good compression you probably shouldn't be able to turn it over by hand at the fly wheel. Maybe an old school motor with V belt, but not a newer motor with all those accessories attached to the front.
