I have a 1990 Accord EX. The S light is on. I have changed the transmission fluid and the trans will only shift manually. The car sat for 2 years and I have it up and running. Any ideas how to get the trans to work properly again?

I have a 91 Accord. The speedometer started going wild, 30 mph. 75 mph and I was at a stop finally quit working and the S light came on. I finally changed the speedo sensor and the S light went off...Check engine light was also on, read on a forum that the speedo sensor does more than control your speedometer, maybe that your trans is not getting the info it needs to shift.....

Have you mistakenly push the "sport"button at the gear shift knob? Because if you do so, the S ligh will stay on.

SOURCE: Rough shifting automatic transmission on Honda Accord from 1st to 2nd gear

it has a problem with the second gear drum it cracks and does not fully engauge the n shifts to 3rd ..many honda owners also learn the 8 bucks a quart is the only fluid to pour in a honda..but remember 3 qaurts per drain and fill the tranny holds 7q ....it will take a case to do a drain flush...a high pressure flush will ruin a automatic tranny with alot of miles or metal deposits floating around inside..DRAIN AND FILL 3 QUARTS AT A TIME NO GASKET NEEDED ITS BUILT AND DESIGNED LIKE A MANUAL TRANNY

the first common possibilty would be to check fluid level, if the fluid level is good, I would recommend changing the transaxle fluid and filter. if this does not correct the issue, a professional transmission repair person will need to diagnose for you, good luck!

SOURCE: honda accord ex 2001 check engine light suddenly came on, car started to idle roughly

If it's running rough, chances are that it's misfiring. If the Check Engine light is flashing/blinking, it is definitely misfiring.
If that's the case, drive it as little as possible... Or straight to the mechanic because the more you drive it while it's misfiring, the higher the chance is of you ruining your catalytic converter.

I would check to see if the fluid is low, and replace it with Honda manual transmission fluid first. Honda manual transmissions originally used engine oil, never gear oil, then Honda came out with manual trans fluid. Either would work, but the Honda manual fluid would be better.

Transmission won't shift fron 1st, 2nd or 3rd correctly!

Sorry to inform you that it sounds like your transmission needs servicing.
Check the fluid levels and replenish if level is down.
If after doing this, the car still wont shift properly or smoothly,,then you will have to take the car into a transmission mechanic.

Manual transmission light flickers off and on-car won't go over40

Is the car a manual or automatic, 4 or 6 cyl? If it is a manual trans the hard shift could be due to worn shift forks which were rather common in these cars, had them go out in my 90 GT a few years ago. Could also be low on lube or the wrong lube. To check the lube on a manual trans car remove the speedometer drive which is on the top of the trans. The fluid should be at the bottom of the gear on the drive. The proper fluid is ATF not heavy gear oil that ends up getting put in. Hope this helps

1990 Honda Accord EX Transmission

possibly due to low trans fluid pressure. the cooler in the radiator may be plugged. to check, disconnect and bypass cooler with rubber line & clamps. drive 2-3 miles. shifting OK now? install auxillary cooler to bypass one in radiator. you can get one at auto-zone $30-$50. may just need fluid & filter change, but more likely it's the cooler. when they get plugged, either one, pressure drops alot.
