After replacig the battery my spedometer is stuck at the extreme speed The odometer works fine but the speedometer stays in the same postion if the car is being driven or turned off. mines a 2002 Ford Focus SE, it has the same problem, I just replaced the battery on it and the speed gauge is maxed as well. If the cover to the speedometer, odometer, gas gauge, temp gauge etc can be poped off how is it done so i can try just pushing it back to zero? Also should i try unhooking the battery and connecting the pos and neg wires together?
It may have a static charge in the instrument cluster, try un-hooking the battery then turn the key on and even hit the brakes to try to drain the spark out of the system, hooking the 2 cables together with the battery disconnected may work as well to drain it.hook up the battery and see what happens, but make sure the key is off and nothing is on-lights,radio,wipers etc,it could send a spark to the computer.
I recently had my truck release in my 2003 ford focus blow a fuse and now the realse won't work either in the car or off my remote. also shortyl before that i had my dash boerd go a little crazy, meaning some times all the dials will drop and some times just the speedo. one of my buddies taol me to look at the grounds in the dash. first im not sure if i trust his word and second im not sure where to look. he also said something about looking up a wiring diagram but i can't find one of those either. dose that sound like the problem or could it be something else?
This is an electronic speedo if loose power then recieves a spike during re-install it can go to max. Try jacking front end up till both front wheels are off the ground(please use jack stands make sure vehicle is secure and set e-brake) then put in gear and run up to speed until the speedo snaps back in place. basically you are going to lift you drive wheels off the ground and run the car up to 120-130mph w/o moving.
