I had the same problem on a 2002 Alero V6. I found the coolant was leaking at the intake manifold on the left front of the engine. I tightened the intake bolts (which were very loose) and solved my coolant leak problem.

How to Reset the Change Oil Light

After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset.

With the ignition key to ON, push the RESET button

located in the driver's side instrument panel fuse block. The

CHANGE OIL light will start to flash, press and hold the

RESET button again. The reset is complete when you hear
the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL light goes out.

in the control panel one the right side of the car there is a reset button. all you have to do is turn the car to when all the lights are flashing and hold the reset button until the car dings.

if you only removed the transmission pan you should only need about 6 quarts. the transmission dipstick has level marks at the bottom of stick keep the amount in between the marks.
