2002 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 When Driving the Engine Dies

The Engine Just Stops Running but it isnt giving any check Engine Light How do I find out what it is? My 2002 Jeep wrangler, 6 cyl automatic, will just cut out when driving. It usually happens durring partial thorottle. I could put it in neutral and start it right back up again but not long after it happens again. Sometimes it doesn't cut out all together but only when I give it gas does it hesitate and want to die. No check engine light. Any ideas?

Put the key in the ignition and turn it on and off (3) times without starting the jeep, leaving it in the on position count the (1) flashing indicator Light, Eg: (5) flashes, Then there will be a pause, then it may flash (3) times, this is a code #53. Keep your Eye on them and write them down. If you should miss (1) Repeat as many times as needed, Info: A #55 means there are no codes!!

Check the # of flashs it has to be (2) separate and distinct Numerals.Eg; 1,2,3,4,5 Pause then 1,2,3 if there are more than one code it will flash (2) different #s. Then it will start all over again.

2002 jeep wrangler oil pressure gauge drops

When the gauge is at 0, is there any noise from the engine (tick, knock etc?) I would have someone put a mechanical gauge on there and read true pressure.Your driving pressure seems OK but if the low number is "real" something is wrong!

2002 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 When Driving the Engine Dies

You need to do a code check. if no codes, check fuel supply (pump and filter) Quick way to isolate problem to either fuel or spark is to spray carb cleaner into intake while cranking. If engine starts, then it's fuel...If not, then I'd suspect spark...common problem there is crank sensor, but don't replace it without testing first!!!

Startin and runnin problems

Most common failure is crank sensor. Before running out and buying one, I strongly recommend that you do some further testing. Any decent manual has instructions for testing systems. Also: test both running and after it dies. (while running everything may check out as good) If you have spark when not running, check fuel filter as well!
