Overheating, don't know why

My 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS started overheating this morning, I checked the fluids and everything is okay. What could cause it to overheat so easily?

The most common problem with overheating is the thermostat. It becomes plugged and won't allow enough coolant to pass through the system. Another cause could be old coolant. Flushing the coolant periodically (when the coolant appears to have rust in it or has faded in color) is a good idea to keep the antifreeze/coolant up to peak levels. Bost are worth looking into but I'd be surprised (barring any leaks in the sytem) if the thermostat wasn't the culprit here. Best of luck.

WHEN IM DRIVING, IT POPS OR JERKS ALL OF A SUDDEN AND THEN WONT SHIFT GEARS. WHEN IM ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND IT DOES THIS, IT WILL BARELY GO 55 MPH.

Your transmission fluid is dangerously low (tranny is dry). The pops & jerks are the transmission
internal components trying not to seize onto each other due to lack of lubrication and/or overheating.
Low transmission fluid leads not only to loss of lubrication but lots of overheating (of the tranny).
The loss of Elantra performance (speed tops out at 55), is caused by power loss due to friction inside the transmission. All your power is lost overheating the transmission (toward destruction), instead of
being transmitted through the transmission to the wheels.

The 2004 Elantra takes Hyundai SP-III Automatic Transmission Fluid, with 8.4 quarts used in a
total refill - but just 5 quarts at a fluid change. For How-to transmission fluid change instructions:

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Hyundai-Repair-815/2004-Elantra-GT-transmission.htm

www.autozone.com claims that 2004 Hyundai Elantra can take these non-Hyundai ATF's:
Lucas Semi-Synthetic Multivehicle ATF
Pennzoil Muilt Vehicle ATF
Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc ATF
Castrol High Mileage ATF

2002 hyundai elantra gls windshild washer is not

Check the fuse box if not under the dash on the drivers side kick panel, then under the hood, look in the owners man for the location. With the key on, hold the washer switch on and have someone check for power to the pump motor located in the bottom of the washer fluid bottle if the fuse is good but not getting power to the pump then the wiper/washer switch is your most likely culprit..

Engine overheat, A/C shut off, fan hot

Chances are that your engine is ok. Bad engine overheating can seize the engine. Less extensive overheating can crack the engine especially the cylinder head and lead to power loss or mixing of water and engine oil. If water is mixing with oil, the oil looks milky. If your car is not losing power and the oil looks normal then chances are that there was no damage to your engine.

Just make sure that whatever caused the overheating in the first place is sorted out - perhaps the radiator flushing resolved the cause of the overheating.

Overheating

Should just be the two bolts holding the metal cover on. Follow the top radiator hose if you aren't sure where it is.

Before you do this, make sure you check your coolant level to make sure it isn't just low.

Hope this helps.

2000 Hyundai Elantra Transmission problem

I don't know if I can help but as an owner of a Hyundai Elantra 2000 GLS with 205,000 miles and the original clutch and transmission I'll try and help!

I always start with the lowest cost solution first and avoid mechanics as much as possible!

Have you checked the trans fluid?
It should be changed every 30,000 miles!
Sometimes a Lucas Trans Fluid will cure - fix slippage!

Have you checked for a clutch adjustmet!
An adjustment can cure - fix slippage!

Are you a clutch rider with your foot always on the clutch?
If so you may have worn out the clutch!

How many miles to you have on your Hyundai Elantra 2000?
