How do i no if my clutch needs replacing in my 1997 peugeot 306 convertable

Certainly, that's one way! If the clutch is worn out, it will "slip". A way to tell is to put the car in 3rd gear and rfev the engine just alittle and then let ehte cutch "out." If the engine continues running, the clutch is slipping. You may be able to smell "something" buring as well. That would be the clutch disintegrating.

Be sure to have the flywheel inspected for damage when the clutch is replaced. It may only require resurfacing but it may need ot be replaced.

How do I line-up the flywheel timing marks and where are they. I fitted new clutch and had to remove the flywheel

There should have been a dowel pin in crank flange so the flywheel would go back in the same spot. Is it a new flywheel? Was it balanced? There are no timing marks on the flywheel. Does the gear on the starter line up with the flywheel teeth? Does the engine turn over? Would like to help.

How to tell if a flywheel is bad

most flywheel faults are heat related caused by a slipping clutch . Remove the transmission and inspect for , blue color heat spots . small cracks. scores caused by a worn out driven plate, run out check with a dial gauge. most flywheels can be machined as good as new . All ways fit a new replacement clutch kit with a new throw out bearing.

If the clutch is hydraulic, it most likely has some air in the line. I had that problem on my 87 Saab. When it got hot the air would expand and the clutch would slip. In my case the master clutch cylinder was leaking and allowing air to enter the system.

I have a expert 2005 it has lack of power going up hills wit just has no grunt it has just had a conversion done from a dual mass flywheel to a solid flywheel i have check the ecu but no codes i have...

The setting for clutch are not proper hence clutch is either slipping too much or sticking too much to clutch plate causing the engine to overload for every single rev. Both will effect the efficiency of your engine's exerting power especially going up hills. Use the manufacturers specification for clutch force and adjestment of pressure plate.

Try this to find out the condition of your clutch system:
In first gear and push accelerator fully to drive upto 3500 revs and then suddenly move your foot away from accelerator. If you feels a sudden shock and your head tends to nag to windscreen with a force then clutch adjestments are not properly done (stifting force is more than recommended). Inversly clutch is not engaging fully.

Peugeot 106 1.5D. the clutch was slipping so new clutch fitted 2 weeks ago. It was still slipping so that garage replaced the clutch again. Guess what? It is still slipping. Any idea what is going on?

Yes clutch pedal should start to drive about 1inch off the floor and when driving keep your foot away from the pedal,/ also when new clutch is fitted did they fit a complete clutch assy /and did they surface grind the flywheel as if it was badly worn on the 1st one then the new one wouldent last very long.
as when the clutch starts to drive 1" from the floor clutch is good /when it engages right out its buggered and slips so ask about the f/wheel
