The wife was driving her 2000 hyundai accent when she says it started revving up and slowing down multiple times before it finally died completely. Now the starter will spin but engine does nothing

Check the O2 and mass air intake sensors. My girlfriend was having the same problem and not able to pass emissions. I forgot the codes. It will cost ALOT less if you can do it yourself. Relatively simple repair.

I had the exact smae problem and threw aaway a ton of money on bad "guesses" at what was wrong. The actual fix was replacing the crank shaft position sensor for 50 or 60 bucks. Swapped out bad for good and cars has run great every day since.

DID THE BELT BREAK AND THEN IT WAS CHANGED. If so then you may have bent valve. IF NOT then vehicle may be timed wrong.
