SOURCE: Headlight Unit

The easiest way to go about this is to simply remove the headlight assembly. The first step is to remove the grill. Be very careful with the retaining clips as they are prone to breaking. Next, remove the three retaining screws, then remove the light assembly. you now have access to the bulb socket. Depress the release tab on the socket, and unplug from the bulb. Now simply rotate the bulb until in goes no further and remove the bulb. IMPORTANT!!!!!! Before you install the new bulb, clean it with alcohol!! DO NOT touch the bulb, as you will leave skin oil, creating a hot spot which will burn out the bulb. Reassembly is the reverse order.

SOURCE: 2003 VW Golf won't start - battery was charged

You need to charge your battery up more. Either get a battery charger or leave the jumper cables hooked up for a longer period of time.
Your battery was probably completely dead. You might even need a new battery...they really don't like to be completely drained.

SOURCE: Driver side headlight bulbs burned out on 2003 VW Golf

There is a light cover in front of the battery... take this off and then look for the metal clamps holding the light housing in.  (I say clamps, but they're more like glorified paper clips on either side of the fixture.)  Press in on each side, pushing the clamps towards each other and pull the fixture out.

SOURCE: VW Golf MK3 1996 P

i would start by cleaning out the throttle body. they collect soot and not have to be a lot either for it to mess up the idle speed, i had trhis on mine soon as i dipped the clutch to slow down the rpm dropped to about 400 to stall, i cleaned throttle body out ( taking air intake off and wipe round inside and the butterfly will be enough) and now it idles and the rpm dont drop below 900

Headlight Issue on 1999 VW Golf GTI VR6. I just purchased this yesterday and noticed that the lights will not switch from High to Low beam. (High indicator doesn’t switch off) Installed a new Headlight...

Most total headlight failures are caused by a bad component like a fuse, relay, or module. Wiring problems can also cause both headlights to stop working. High beam headlights don't work or low beams don't work. If just one bulb fails to work in either high beam mode or low beam mode, it may be the bulb. Check your manual to find your headlamp relay.

Headlights wont go on all other lights work. Just high beam and low beam and the blue high beam indicator light on dash. changed headlight switch checked battery ground cable and ground wire to body.

check the fuse block under the hood, drivers side . head lights have fuses there may look ok but check with continuity tester to make sure. test wires at the head lights as well. best bet is the fuses

1996 dodge Ram 1500 4x4 headlights dont work. All other lights work. Headlight lamps are all good. Could it be the switch or the multifunction switch? High beam works when I pull on the directional le

The headlight switch gets power for the headlights from a 50amp fuse.
The fuse powers the headlight switch then the dimmer switch breaks for high and low beams. So if the high beams work, the problem may be with the dimmer switch.
The dimmer switch is made into the turn signal switch on the column. You would need to check the low and high beam circuits at the switch for power.

High beam headlights stuck on replaced switch same problem

It can be issue with headlight switch, but as its already been replaced.Try disconnecting high beam headlight wiring from headlight assembly and reconnect direct external wire from headlight switch to headlight assembly, then by switch see if headlight is getting off and turning on or not.

1996 vw jetta problem with the headlights. The daytime running lights work fine the high beams work fine, but when you turn on the lights from the switch the driver side headlight turns off. I've checked...

I don't have a wiring diagram ,but on most cars I would say your low beam bulb is bad. Try swapping sides to see if the problem goes with it, or just replace the bulb. You can always keep the new one until needed someday... shadetree mech by necessity.

I have a 92 VW Golf, and I cant get the low beam headlights to come on, or the interior dash lights to come on either. The High beams will come on, and the rest of the lights work fine. Only the dash...

Sounds like you have a bad headlight switch. I would also check fuses 1&2 in the fuse box, those are for the low beam headlights, and fuse 3 is for the instrument panel lights and the license plate lights. All 3 should be 10 amp fuses.

Head lights will not turn on.

The relay for the headlight is stuck locate it and replace it. Get a cd repair manual on Ebay motors to locate the electrical component.

Gitting gti lights

The wiring is different, if your Golf had headlights with H4 bulbs then changing to high beam turns dip off. The GTi has separate dip and high lights, on high beam dip stays on (all 4 bulbs on).

Full beam

Last thing to check is the switch on the steering column (or wherever yours is located)

I've replaced it on one of my cars which would only give me parkers or high beams, no low-beams.

These mechanical type of switches can wear or break, so if all else fails, that's where you need to look next.

Replacing it yourself shouldn't be too hard if you've ripped bits of car interior out before. Get the steering-column shroud off, unscrew and unplug the headlight stalk, and throw in a used or (better yet) new stalk! =-D
