Unbolt the drive shaft from the rear differential. Slid the driveshaft yoke out of the transmission tale stock. The seal is right there at the end of the transmission. Take a seal remover or a screw driver and remove the seal, it may be tough getting it out and if you damage it, it's not a problem just don't damage the housing. After it's out take a socket or I use an ABS pipe the same size as your seal and place the seal at the seal seat and tap it in lightly and evenly. put the drive shaft back in tail stock and bolt back onto the differential. Good luck

Auto trans.rear bushing leak

one of two reasons:
1- the part of the shaft which comes in contact with the lip of the seal has a groove in it
2- there is a brass bushing behind the seal in the tail of the trans which is meant to hold the shaft steady; if it is worn, then the shaft is moving out of range of the seals' ability to remain in contact with it.

My 1981 chevy luv diesel keeps leaking oil out of tail shaft I replaced the seal and still leaks idk what the problem is any suggestions.

the shaft may have a groove in it which prevents proper contact with the seal, the rear bearing may have excessive play and the shaft is moving out of contact with the seal, the trans might be overfull or is heating up and creating pressure which the seal cannot hold.

My transmission leaks what should i replace

There are at least 5 places on the Automatic transmission that can over time, and mileage develope fluid leaks. Front converter seal at the front of the transmission, pan gasket in the center, dipstick tube o ring at the center on one side ,speed sensor o ring, and the tail shaft seal at the rear,of the transmission.
Place a flat piece or huge card board, under the engine and transmission, after driving you will see where the fluid, red in color is dripping. Its easier to spot exactly where the leak is comming if you can look under the car, while it is running, The easiest leak is the pan gasket, the dipstick tube, and the speed sensor, then the rear housing tail shaft bushing and seal.
If the front seal(converter seal) is leaking the transmission will need removed, and the seal, and maybe even the front pump bushing Replaced,it would be a good idea to replace the bushing esp if it has high mileage,80,000 or 100,000 miles of use.Change the fluid and the filter, while repareing the leak or leaks. Is a good idea.

Transmission leaking through drive shaft

the rear seal on the tail shaft must have gotten damaged when you removed the shaft. it is available at any good parts store, easy to change. you have to pull the drive shaft back out, then you can use a small hook / prybar to pull the seal out, then tap the new one into place. pay close attention to the install height of the old seal before you remove it, so you know how far to drive the new seal in. good luck!

I have flui leaking out the back of the yoke into

Your rear tail shaft seal is leaking and it can be replaced, you may have a worn shaft and will need to buy a speedy sleave at any parts store and a new rear transmisson seal both costs about $20.00 and is not to hard to change, you need to replace the fluid with Dexron II or Dexron III or the new fluid that works in all cars. If you need more help let me know.

Transmission leak

You can have a leak at the pan on the bottom or the front pump seal or the tail shaft seal at the very rear. Most of the time it will be the pan gasket. The constant heat and vibration can cause this to occur. Not a big deal. You can pick up another pan gasket and filter and change them both. The tail seal is an easy fix also. Remove the drive line and pop the seal out and place the new one in. If it is the front pump seal you will have to remove the transmission to gain access for replacement. Good luck.

Rear transmission leak

it sounds like you have a tail shaft seal gone in the transmission it's not a difficult fix if you are handy. Remove the drive shaft and remove the tail stock seal(there are install and removal tools but a hammer and a screwdriver will remove it nicely)then replace with new seal (if you don't have the install tool a 5" long piece of 2x4 and a hammer works BE GENTLE!!!!)and reinstall drive shaft..........these seals are available at your local auto parts store and are usually no more tan $10.00
hope this helps!.........good luck!
